Madeira opens 77 vacancies for specialist nurses in SESARAM public competition
Por FactBox Admin

The Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, EPERAM (SESARAM) has opened a common competitive procedure aimed at filling 77 vacancies in the category of specialist nurse within the nursing careers. The opening was decided by a resolution of the SESARAM Board of Directors on September 29, 2026, and published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, no. 207, on October 26, 2026, via Notice (extract) no. 47/2026/M/2. The deadline for submitting applications is 15 business days from the date of publication.
This is the largest recruitment published in that edition of the official bulletin and covers the modality of an indefinite-term public service employment contract or an open-ended employment contract, under the terms of the Labor Code. The functional content of the positions corresponds to that described in Article 10-A of Decree-Laws nos. 247/2009 and 248/2009, both of September 22, as currently worded.
Seven dozen positions divided across six references
The vacancies are organized into six references, each associated with a specialty area:
- Reference A — Rehabilitation Nursing: 17 job positions.
- Reference B — Medical-Surgical Nursing, with specialties in Critical Care Nursing, Perioperative, Chronic Disease, Palliative, or Medical-Surgical Nursing: 18 positions.
- Reference C — Community Nursing, in Community Health and Public Health or Family Health: 6 positions.
- Reference D — Child and Pediatric Health Nursing: 8 positions.
- Reference E — Maternal and Obstetric Health Nursing: 12 positions.
- Reference F — Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing: 16 positions.
The medical-surgical area concentrates the highest number of positions, followed by rehabilitation and mental health, which together represent more than half of the vacancies in the competition.
Competition closed to those not already working in the regional service
Despite being designated as a common competitive procedure, the notice imposes cumulative requirements that restrict applications to professionals already linked to the institution. It requires the holding of a legal employment relationship titled by an indefinite-term public service employment contract, or an open-ended employment contract under the Labor Code, with SESARAM, EPERAM, and at least 12 months of effective exercise of functions within the institution.
The remaining special requirements are:
- A minimum of four years of professional practice as a nurse.
- The specialist nurse title required for the area corresponding to the position in the competition.
- A definitive and valid professional license from the Order of Nurses.
Candidates who, cumulatively, are integrated into the career, hold the category, and occupy—without being in a mobility process—work positions identical to those currently advertised in the service’s personnel map, are excluded.
Curricular evaluation and reserve valid for 18 months
The only planned selection method is the curricular evaluation. The procedure is intended for immediate recruitment and remains valid until the stated positions are occupied, ending upon their filling.
Should the final approved ranking list contain more successful candidates than available vacancies, an internal recruitment reserve will be established, pursuant to paragraph 3 of article 32 of Ordinance no. 153/2020, of June 23. This reserve is valid for 18 months from the date of the list’s approval, according to paragraph 4 of the same article.
The full notice is available on the SESARAM website, in the employment opportunities area, accessible via employee login. The extract is signed by the coordinator of the Human Resources Nucleus, Paula Susana Figueira Freitas, on September 30, 2026, using the competence conferred by subparagraph h) of point 1.2.4. of Deliberation no. 1/2026, published in JORAM, 2nd series, no. 4, of January 7, 2026.
The competition responds to the need to strengthen the specialized nursing staff of the Madeiran health service, but does so internally: the universe of eligible candidates is limited to professionals who already hold a stable link and one year of effective duties at SESARAM. For readers working at the institution, there is a window of 15 working days to apply for one of the 77 positions; for other specialist nurses in the country, the door remains closed at this stage.
