Flugsicherung Niederrhein: Geänderter Schutzbereich für das Instrumentenlandesystem 27

The Federal Aviation Safety Supervisory Authority has announced the amendment of the air traffic control facility Niederrhein ILS 27 and the area surrounding it in which interference from structures is expected. The announcement is based on Section 18a Paragraph 1b Sentence 1 of the Aviation Act and is dated September 15, 2026. It was published on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in the Federal Gazette under the official reference BAnz AT 14.10.2026 B3.

The publication presents the data regarding the air traffic control facility, location information, exception areas, and the parameterization of the facility protection zone. Affected is the instrument landing system of runway 27 at Niederrhein commercial airport; the component bears the identifier EDLV-G27 and is of the type ILS-GP Type M. The operator of the facility in the sense of CNS operatorship is DFS, the type of use is civil, and the status is “in operation”.

Location and Technical Baseline Data

According to official data, the facility is located at 06° 09’ 19.5593" east longitude and 51° 36’ 11.9917" north latitude (WGS84). For the altitude and orientation, the announcement specifies the following values:

  • Antenna base above ground: 0.00 m
  • Antenna height above ground: 0.00 m
  • Base height above NHN: 33.31 m
  • Transmitter direction: 92.00°
  • Distance to threshold: 0.00 m
  • Distance to runway centerline: 0.00 m

Thus, the facility is located exactly at the runway threshold of runway 27 and radiates at 92.00° in the direction of the approach baseline.

The Directional Facility Protection Zone in Figures

The parameterization of the directional facility protection zone comprises eight variables that define the spatial extent of the area:

  • b: 50.00 m
  • a: 800.00 m
  • r: 6000.00 m
  • h: 70.00 m
  • L: 325.00 m
  • D: 250.00 m
  • H: 5.00 m
  • Phi: 10.00°

For clarification, the announcement contains a schematic representation of a directional facility protection zone from ICAO EUR DOC 015 as well as a map representation of the location of the air traffic control facility and the facility protection zone. The map is at a scale of 1:25,448 and is based on geobase data © GeoBasis-DE/BKG 2026.

Significance for Developers, Municipalities, and Operators

With the announcement, the amended boundaries of the protection zone are officially determined and made publicly accessible. Developers, municipalities, and operators in the vicinity of the air traffic control facility can use the published location and parameterization data to check whether their structures extend into the facility protection zone.

The publication is issued by the Federal Supervisory Authority for Air Traffic Services as the competent supervisory authority; the facility itself is operated by the DFS. The PDF file of the official publication is provided with a qualified electronic seal. The announcement was signed in Langen on September 15, 2026, “on behalf of” Andreas Wiese.

For the affected stakeholders in the vicinity of Niederrhein Airport, the publication means that the planning and approval bases for construction projects within the area of influence of the instrument landing system have been updated to the status of October 14, 2026. Anyone building there or modifying existing facilities should use the new boundaries of the facility protection area as the basis for their assessment.
