Subpesca autoriza 38.541 toneladas de jurel a Foodcorp y armadores del Biobío

The Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism authorized the capture of 38,541.15 tons of jack mackerel through resolution No. 2,554, published in the Official Gazette of Chile, No. 44,589, on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, in Section II, Particular Norms, under the official reference CVE 2895264. The quota comes from a transfer made by the Republic of Vanuatu and benefits Foodcorp Chile S.A. and artisanal shipowners from the Biobío Region.

The act was issued in Valparaíso on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and bears the signature of the Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Osvaldo Andrés Urrutia Silva. This is the largest volume allocation among the five resolutions on jack mackerel included in the same edition of the bulletin, which together total more than 54,000 tons of the resource.

The framework: the SPRFMO conservation measure

The authorization is based on paragraph 10 of the Conservation and Management Measure for Trachurus murphyi, CMM 01-2026, adopted by the Commission of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO) and approved in Chile through exempt resolution No. 1,463 of 2026, from the same Undersecretariat.

This mechanism allows quotas assigned to third countries to be transferred to national operators. In the November 3 edition, in addition to resolution No. 2,554, the following were published:

  • Resolution No. 2,481: Blumar S.A. and artisanal shipowners, 4,495 tons transferred by Ecuador (CVE 2895056).
  • Resolution No. 2,501: Blumar S.A. and artisanal shipowners, 1,707 tons transferred by Panama (CVE 2895071).
  • Resolution No. 2,514: Orizon S.A. and artisanal shipowners, 4,282.35 tons transferred by Vanuatu (CVE 2894619).
  • Resolution No. 2,544: Alimentos Marinos S.A. Alimar, 5,000 tons transferred by the Republic of Korea (CVE 2894622).

In all cases, the same operational formula is repeated: artisanal vessels from Biobío plus industrial vessels nominated in each resolution.

Industrial vessels and operation zone

For the quota of resolution No. 2,554, extraction may be carried out by the vessels registered in the Artisanal Fishing Registry of the Biobío Region detailed in numeral 4 of the resolution and, interchangeably, by four industrial vessels:

  • Ruth
  • Alf
  • Cazador
  • Talbor

The operation zone established for these vessels comprises the application area of the Convention on the Conservation and Management of High Seas Fisheries Resources in the South Pacific Ocean and the Exclusive Economic Zone of Chile corresponding to the fishery units where the petitioner holds a transferable fishing license for the resource Trachurus murphyi.

Validity and obligations

The authorization shall be effective from the date of the certificate accrediting compliance with the condition in paragraph 2 of the resolution until December 31, 2026, both dates inclusive, or until the catch limit of 38,541.15 tons is reached, whichever occurs first.

Applicants must strictly comply with the General Law on Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Navigation Law, the Convention on the matter, and the current conservation measures adopted by the SPRFMO Commission.

The authorized volume is equivalent to approximately 71% of the 54,025.5 tons distributed across the five jack mackerel resolutions of the period and consolidates Biobío as the main landing hub for the resource this season, with a calendar that expires in less than two months. For the industrial and artisanal sector of the region, the quota defines the planning for jack mackerel catches and exports until the end of 2026.
