Odense court jails man for one year and confiscates two knives

Retten i Odense has sentenced Zakariya Jelle Hassan Malaq to one year’s imprisonment and ordered the confiscation of two knives, according to a judgment extract published in Statstidende on 6 November 2026. The same ruling imposes joint and several liability for DKK 20,000 plus process interest, and it was announced by public proclamation because ordinary service had not been possible. The announcement is carried under “Øvrige retslige kundgørelser · Forkyndelse af domme” as notice S04112026-9, case number SS 10-2143/2025.

What the judgment orders

The operative part of the extract, introduced with the standard formula “Thi kendes for ret”, sets out the following:

  • Imprisonment: the accused, Zakariya Jelle Hassan Malaq, is to be punished with one year in prison (“fængsel i 1 år”).
  • Confiscation: an isolation knife (“isolationskniv”) is confiscated.
  • Confiscation, count 3: a spring knife (“springkniv”) is confiscated in respect of the third count of the charge.
  • Compensation: the defendants are to pay DKK 20,000 jointly and severally (“in solidum”), within 14 days, to the party represented by attorney Anders Munk Zacho, with process interest added from 16 October 2026.
  • Costs: each defendant is to bear the costs of the case relating to him or her individually.

The published extract uses the plural “de tiltalte” for the compensation and costs orders, indicating that the case involved more than one defendant, while only Zakariya Jelle Hassan Malaq is named as the person on whom the notice is served. The names of the co-debtor and of the receiving party have been left blank in the gazette text, shown only as “…” in the sentence on joint liability.

Public proclamation after failed service

The notice states that the communication is proclaimed publicly (“forkyndes offentligt”) because service by other means has not been possible, a mechanism used when a defendant cannot be located or reached for personal delivery. The full transcript of the judgment is available for collection at Retten i Odense, Albanigade 28, 5000 Odense C, telephone 99683400, quoting case number SS 10-2143/2025.

The notice was signed on 4 November 2026 by Anna Melissa Røjkjær on behalf of Retten i Odense, two days before its publication in the gazette.

A second notice naming the same person

Statstidende of 28 October 2026 carried a separate service notice, S26102026-190, naming the same person in another case before the same court, SS 9-3835/2025. In that ruling the accused was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, acquitted of the claim for a residence and/or contact ban, and ordered to pay the costs of the case; that notice was likewise issued from Retten i Odense, signed on 26 October 2026 by Anna Melissa Røjkjær, and proclaimed publicly for the same reason. The two announcements are separate judicial decisions, and the gazette does not link them.

Why it matters

Judgment-service notices are among the few places where the full operative text of a Danish criminal ruling reaches the public record, and this one is unusually complete: it names the convicted person, fixes the sanction, identifies both confiscated knives and quantifies the compensation with its interest start date. For readers, it documents how a court in Denmark’s third-largest city handles weapon confiscation alongside imprisonment and joint liability, and it shows how the state discharges its duty to notify a defendant who cannot be found.
