Odense court imposes six-month prison sentence and serves judgment publicly

Retten i Odense has sentenced Zakariya Jelle Hassan Malaq to six months’ imprisonment and ordered him to pay the costs of the case, while acquitting him of the claim for a stay-away and/or contact ban. The judgment was served publicly in Statstidende on 28 October 2026, in section I under the heading “Øvrige retslige kundgørelser · Forkyndelse af domme”, because other service had not been possible. The notice carries the official reference S26102026-190 and the court’s journal number SS 9-3835/2025.

The publication is the court’s own reproduction of the operative part of the ruling, issued by Retten i Odense and signed on 26 October 2026 by Anna Melissa Røjkjær. It is not a summary written by the gazette: it quotes the dispositive text (“Thi kendes for ret”) and states where the full transcript of the judgment can be collected. The entry appears among the gazette’s criminal and judicial announcements, and it gives no street address for the convicted man, no defence counsel and no statement of the charge on which he was sentenced.

What the court decided

The published extract of the judgment contains three operative points:

  • Zakariya Jelle Hassan Malaq is to be punished with imprisonment for six months.
  • He is acquitted of the claim for a stay-away and/or contact ban (opholds- og/eller kontaktforbud).
  • He must pay the costs of the case.

Those three lines are the whole of the dispositive text in the notice; no fine, confiscation order, expulsion or probation conditions are recorded in it.

Where the transcript can be collected

The notice directs anyone entitled to the document to the court itself:

  • Court: Retten i Odense, Albanigade 28, 5000 Odense C, Denmark.
  • Telephone: 99683400.
  • Journal number: SS 9-3835/2025.
  • Signed for the court: Retten i Odense, 26 October 2026, Anna Melissa Røjkjær.
  • Reason given for public service: other service had not been possible.

Under the gazette’s practice, the notice is the formal substitute for personal service: the judgment is deemed announced to the convicted person through its publication, and the extract remains available at the court for collection in Odense.

A recurring channel for criminal rulings

Public service of judgments is a standing feature of Statstidende, and the heading “Forkyndelse af domme” recurs regularly in its judicial notices. In the gazette’s recent output the heading appears in 12 notices between 28 August and 28 October 2026, covering courts across the country and a wide range of sentences.

Two examples show the spread. On 20 October 2026 the gazette carried a judgment from Retten i Horsens against Mihaita Gabriel Chebac: 20 days’ imprisonment, not to be executed if a one-year probation period is observed, plus a supplemental fine of 17,000 kr, a three-year revocation of the driving licence, expulsion with a four-year entry ban and confiscation of a car. On 15 October 2026 it published a notice from Østre Landsret in the case against Sophie M.E.I. Mikkelsen-Jensen, where the city court’s judgment was upheld and the defendant was ordered to pay the costs of the appeal.

The Odense entry is shorter than either, but it follows the same template: court, journal number, dispositive text, place of collection and the reason for public service.

Why it matters

For readers, the notice is the only public trace of the outcome in this case: a six-month prison sentence and a costs order handed down in Odense, with the acquittal on the contact-ban claim recorded in the same three lines. The full transcript remains available at the court’s address in Odense, and SS 9-3835/2025 is the reference needed to request it.
