Madrid aprueba el calendario laboral de 2027 con doce fiestas

The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid has established the public holidays for 2027 through Decree 82/2026, of September 30, published in the BOCM no. 234 of October 1, 2026. The calendar consists of twelve regional and national holidays, to which each municipality will add two local holidays. The regulation takes effect from the day of its publication.

The decree, processed by the Ministry of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, is based on the Recast Text of the Workers’ Statute Law, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015, of October 23; Law 8/1984, of April 25, which declares May 2 as a holiday in the Community of Madrid; and Royal Decree 2001/1983, of July 28, regarding the regulation of the working day, special shifts, and rest periods.

Prior to its approval, the parliamentary groups of the Assembly of Madrid, the Catholic Church, and the representative economic and social institutions of the region were consulted. The text bears the signature of Councilor Miguel Ángel García Martín and President Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and was deliberated by the Governing Council at its meeting on September 30, 2026.

The twelve public holidays of 2027

The annex of the decree lists the twelve holidays that will govern the Community of Madrid during 2027:

  • January 1 (Friday), New Year’s Day.
  • January 6 (Wednesday), Epiphany of the Lord.
  • March 19 (Friday), Saint Joseph’s Day.
  • March 25, Maundy Thursday.
  • March 26, Good Friday.
  • May 1 (Saturday), Labor Day.
  • August 16 (Monday), observed Assumption of the Virgin.
  • October 12 (Tuesday), National Day of Spain.
  • November 1 (Monday), All Saints’ Day.
  • December 6 (Monday), Constitution Day.
  • December 8 (Wednesday), Immaculate Conception.
  • December 25 (Saturday), Nativity of the Lord.

The distribution combines holidays that fall on weekends —May 1 and December 25, both Saturdays— with days that allow for long weekends or short weeks, such as November 1 and December 6, both Mondays. The spring block concentrates four holidays in just three months, from March to May.

Local holidays and scope of application

The sole section of the decree establishes that the resulting labor calendar for 2027 within the Community of Madrid is that contained in the annex, “without prejudice to the two local holidays that, additionally, correspond to be celebrated in each municipality.” Each Madrid locality will thus add two of its own holidays to the twelve regional and national ones, so that the final count for workers in a specific municipality will be fourteen days.

The regulation does not alter the general regime of working hours or rest periods, but is limited to determining which days are considered holidays for labor purposes in the regional territory during the next fiscal year.

Communication and entry into force

The first final provision orders that the provisions of the decree be forwarded to the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. The second final provision establishes that the regulation will take effect on the day of its publication in the BOCM, that is, October 1, 2026. The file is identified by the number (03/15.814/26).

The labor calendar is the mandatory reference for the preparation of company calendars, the setting of shifts, and the scheduling of closures and vacations throughout the region.
