Extremadura convoca 200.000 euros en ayudas de transporte para alumnado postobligatorio

The General Directorate of the Extremadura Public Entity for Complementary Educational Services has announced grants to cover daily and weekend transport expenses for students in non-university post-compulsory education enrolled in public centers in Extremadura during the 2026/2027 academic year. The resolution, signed on October 1, 2026, by Gonzalo Blanco Gallego, is published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura number 209, dated October 29, 2026, with reference 2026062662, and its extract (2026062721) appears in the same issue. The two grant lines are identified in the National Grants Database with codes BDNS 937508 and BDNS 937509.

The call is based on Decree 62/2016, of May 10, which approved the regulatory bases for these grants (DOE number 92, of May 16), and on Law 6/2011, of March 23, on Grants of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura. The authority to call for applications was delegated to the General Directorate of the entity by the Resolution of May 13, 2026, of the General Secretariat of Education (DOE number 92, of May 15). The text justifies the measure based on the geographical dispersion of Extremadura, “a serious obstacle” to access to baccalaureate and vocational training, and the mandate of Article 80 of Organic Law 2/2006 to compensate for inequalities.

Two lines of aid and a 200,000 euro budget

The call is organized into two independent lines:

  • Line B (Weekend Transport): covers travel from the family home to the town where the public post-compulsory education residence or private residence is located.
  • Line C (Daily Transport): covers daily travel to the educational center or the workplace where the vocational training cycle internships are carried out, when it is not possible to occupy a free space on the routes contracted by the Department of Education and Vocational Training.

The maximum global amount is 200,000 euros, with 100,000 euros for each line, charged to the budget application G/222G/48000, managing center 130090000, financing program 20060136 of the 2027 regional budgets. The regulation allows for the credit to be expanded by up to 20% before resolution and provides for pro-rating if there is insufficient credit. In no case will the aid exceed 3,000 euros per student.

Amounts according to distance

The amounts are set by kilometer brackets. In Line B, between the home and the residence:

  • Up to 24 km: 100 euros per student and course.
  • From 25 to 50 km: 235 euros.
  • From 51 to 100 km: 265 euros.
  • From 101 to 150 km: 300 euros.
  • From 151 to 200 km: 335 euros.
  • More than 200 km: 400 euros.

In Line C, according to the accumulated weekly kilometers between the home and the center:

  • Less than 50 km per week: 100 euros.
  • From 50 to 100 km: 192 euros.
  • From 101 to 300 km: 386 euros.
  • From 301 to 500 km: 763 euros.
  • More than 500 km per week: 900 euros.

The Assessment Commission may increase the amount in the case of students with motor disabilities who require an adapted vehicle, following a report from the guidance department, without exceeding the cost of the service.

Requirements, income, and 15-business-day deadline

Students with family residence in Extremadura or with the status of an Extremaduran abroad, enrolled for the full course and who are not repeating the year in whole or in part, may apply for the aid. It is also required not to exceed the computable income thresholds, calculated based on the 2025 IRPF (income tax) return: 14,112 euros for single-member families, 38,831 euros for four, and 53,665 euros for eight, with an additional 3,181 euros for each additional member.

The submission period is 15 business days from the day following the publication of the resolution and its summary in the DOE. Processing is electronic, preferably through the Electronic Registry of the Junta de Extremadura, and requires a municipal residence certificate stating the distance in kilometers and the registration of third parties for the bank account. The procedure is resolved through competitive concurrence, and the maximum period to issue a resolution is three months from the end of the application period; the lack of express notification shall be understood as a rejection.

Incompatibilities and attendance control

Line C is incompatible with general scholarships from the Ministry of Education for post-compulsory levels and with Line B itself; the latter is compatible with state aid, provided that the total does not exceed the actual cost of travel. Justification is the responsibility of the center secretariats, which will certify continuous attendance at the end of the academic period, and unjustified absences may reduce the amount to be paid. An administrative appeal may be filed against the resolution before the Regional Ministry of Education and Vocational Training within one month.

The call for applications arrives with the school year already underway and with school transport as the main barrier for thousands of families in the Extremaduran rural environment, where the distance between the home and the institute or vocational training center conditions the continuity of studies. The maximum amount, 900 euros per course, barely covers a few months of travel in the most remote regions, so the effective distribution of the 200,000 euros will depend on the final number of admitted applications.
