European Commission clears Bosch and Tata electric axle joint venture
Por FactBox Admin

The European Commission has cleared the creation of a joint venture between Robert Bosch GmbH and Tata AutoComp Systems Limited, declaring the notified concentration compatible with the internal market. The decision was adopted on 1 October 2026 under Article 6(1)(b) of Council Regulation (EC) No 139/2004 and published in the Official Journal of the European Union of 15 October 2026, C series, under reference C/2026/5396 (CELEX: C_202605396).
A joint venture for electric axles in India
The transaction, registered as case M.12522 – BOSCH / TATA SONS / JV, gives the two industrial groups joint control of PureMotion Mobility Solutions Private Limited, a newly created company based in India. The concentration is accomplished by way of purchase of shares in the new entity, which constitutes a joint venture within the meaning of Article 3(1)(b) and 3(4) of the Merger Regulation.
The undertakings concerned are:
- Robert Bosch GmbH (Germany), controlled by Robert Bosch Industrietreuhand KG (Germany), active in the supply of products to the automotive industry and in household appliances, heating technology, security technology, energy and building technology, control and drive technology, and power tools.
- Tata AutoComp Systems Limited (India), controlled by Tata Sons Private Limited (India), active among other things in the design and manufacturing of automobile parts in India and outside India.
- PureMotion Mobility Solutions Private Limited (India), the joint venture itself.
The joint venture will develop, manufacture and supply electronic axles in India, including electric traction motors, inverters, transmissions and optional additional components for passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, medium and heavy commercial vehicles — including buses and off-highway vehicles — as well as related after-sale services.
From notification to clearance in under a month
The Commission received notification of the proposed concentration on 9 September 2026, pursuant to Article 4 of the Merger Regulation. The prior notification was published in the Official Journal of 17 September 2026 under reference C/2026/4903, where the case was flagged as a candidate for treatment under the simplified procedure set out in the Commission Notice on a simplified treatment for certain concentrations (OJ C 160, 5.5.2023, p. 1).
At that stage the Commission invited interested third parties to submit observations within 10 days of publication, quoting the case reference M.12522 – BOSCH / TATA SONS / JV. The clearance followed on 1 October 2026, less than a month after the notification was lodged.

- in electronic form on EUR-Lex under document number 32026M12522.
The decision carries EEA relevance and was taken under the merger control rules of Council Regulation (EC) No 139/2004 of 20 January 2004, published in OJ L 24, 29.1.2004, p. 1.
Why it matters
The non-opposition decision allows the two groups to proceed with a venture that combines German automotive supply engineering with Indian manufacturing capacity in a segment — electric axles and traction components — at the centre of the sector’s shift to electrification. For suppliers and competitors across the automotive components industry, the case shows the Commission continuing to wave through joint ventures of this type under the simplified procedure, without opening an in-depth investigation.
