The Cabildo announces eight vacancies for Environmental Operator

The Cabildo de Gran Canaria has approved the specific guidelines for the open-competition call to fill eight positions as Environmental Operator within its labor staff. The decision was formalized through resolution number CGC/2026/10298, dated September 16, 2026, by the Councilor for Public Administration and Transparency, and was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas number 114, dated September 23, 2026, section III, page 16399 (reference 1924570). The deadline for submitting applications is twenty business days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official State Gazette.

Eight labor positions with one reserved for disability

The call corresponds to the category of Environmental Operator, classified under Group V of the labor staff of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, and is processed through a competitive examination system (concurso-oposición). Of the eight positions offered, one is reserved for the disability quota.

The positions are included in the 2022 and 2023 public employment offers of the island corporation. The process is governed by the general guidelines approved by resolution number CGC/2024/4352, dated May 23, 2024, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas number 65, dated May 29, 2024.

The access requirements are minimal:

• Qualification: certificate of schooling.
• Other requirements: Class B driver’s license.
• Requirements must be held on the closing date of the application period and maintained until hiring.

Twenty-business-day deadline and examination fees

Applications are submitted using Annex I along with the self-assessment document for fees, within twenty business days from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official State Gazette. Processing can be done electronically, through the electronic office of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, or in person at the General Registry and the decentralized registries of the corporation, as well as at Post Offices and the locations provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015.

The examination fees are:

• Ordinary fee: 12 euros.
• Large families (general category): 10.80 euros.
• Large families (special category): 9.60 euros.
• Disability equal to or greater than 33%: 6 euros.
• Job seekers who meet the tax ordinance: 0 euros.

Additionally, a special procedure is established for victims of gender-based violence, who may preserve their identity throughout the selection process.

Physical, theoretical, and practical tests: how the process will be

The competitive examination phase consists of three eliminatory exercises. The first is a physical fitness test of the field test type: a 3.2-kilometer route with a 5-kilogram backpack for men and 4 kilograms for women, which must be completed in less than 37 minutes. Before performing it, a medical certificate must be provided, and the tribunal may order doping controls.

The theoretical exercise consists of a 60-question multiple-choice questionnaire in 80 minutes, and the practical exercise consists of a case study with 20 questions over one hour. The examination grade weights the theoretical part at 40% and the practical part at 60%. The merit phase, which is non-eliminatory, evaluates professional experience (50%), official qualifications (20%), courses (20%), and other merits (10%). The final score results from applying 60% to the examination and 40% to the merit phase.

Functions: mountain, nurseries, and fire prevention

Annex V details the functions of the position, focused on environmental work involving physical effort:

• Silvicultural treatments: felling, thinning, clearing, and pruning.
• Cleaning and repair of tracks and trails, and collection of garbage and waste.
• Fight against erosion and restoration of the natural environment through reforestation.
• Work in nurseries, fish farms, and warehouses.
• Participation in the forest fire prevention and extinction campaign.
• Occasional driving of the crew vehicle and surveillance of recreational areas and interpretation centers.

The corporation must formalize the hiring as permanent labor personnel within a maximum period of three months from the tribunal’s proposal, and applicants who pass the process without a vacancy will be integrated into a reserve list for temporary hires. An optional appeal for reversal may be filed against the rules within one month, or a contentious-administrative appeal within two months.
