Cantabria convoca diez plazas de bombero con tramitación de urgencia

The Government of Cantabria has announced ten vacancies for entry via open competition into the Technical Auxiliary Corps for Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue, using a competitive examination system (concurso-oposición) and under urgent processing. The call is formalized in Order PRE/147/2026, dated September 28, published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria number 189, dated October 1, 2026, with official reference CVE-2026-7641. The positions correspond to the 2026 Public Employment Offer and are identified as call 2026/79.

The regulation is signed by the Director General of Public Service, Isabel Barragán Bohigas, by delegation of the Minister of Presidency, Justice, Security and Administrative Simplification (Resolution of December 18, 2018), and is issued under article 13.2-c) of the Cantabria Law 4/1993, of March 10, on Public Service. The process is governed by the common bases of Order PRE/19/2010, of July 2, and the syllabus of subjects is that established in Order PRE/76/2024, of August 29 (BOC number 171, of September 4).

Urgent processing and reduced deadlines

The call applies urgent processing with the aim of reducing temporary employment in the public sector to below 8% and streamlining the selection process. This route halves the following deadlines:

  • Correction of applications: five business days.
  • Appeals against the results of the examination exercises: five calendar days.
  • Allegations regarding the scoring of merits in the competition phase: five calendar days.
  • Submission of supporting documentation by candidates who pass the process: ten calendar days.

The deadline for submitting applications is twenty calendar days from the day following the publication of the call. The registration fee is 12.63 euros, with exemptions for unemployed persons, persons with a disability of 33% or more, victims of terrorism, victims of gender-based violence, and members of large or single-parent families. Applications are completed in the OPEC@N application and addressed to the Minister of Presidency, Justice, Security and Administrative Simplification.

Requirements and development of the selection process

Applicants must hold or be in a position to obtain a High School Diploma (Bachiller) or Technical degree and hold driving licenses of classes B, C, and E. The examination phase (oposición) accounts for 75% of the total score, with a maximum of 60 points, while the competition phase (concurso) provides the remaining 25%, up to 20 points.

The examination includes eliminatory physical and psychotechnical tests and three mandatory exercises:

  • Physical tests: 6-meter smooth rope climb, 1,500-meter run, 50-meter swim, standing broad jump, weightlifting, and auto-ladder climb.
  • First exercise: 100-question questionnaire plus 5 reserve questions, 90 minutes, scored from 0 to 40 points, with 20 points required to pass.
  • Second exercise: driving tests of Service vehicles and/or demonstration of mechanical knowledge, graded as fit or unfit.
  • Third exercise: 50-question questionnaire plus 3 reserve questions, 45 minutes, scored from 0 to 20 points, with 10 points required to pass.

The first eliminatory exercise will be held starting January 1, 2027, on a date and at a location to be announced via a resolution published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria.

Tribunal, selective course, and employment pool

The Qualifying Tribunal will be appointed by the counselor and will consist of a presidency, five members, and a secretariat with a voice but no vote, aiming for parity between women and men. Its headquarters are established at the General Directorate of Public Service, at calle Peña Herbosa 29, Santander.

Applicants declared fit will be appointed as trainee civil servants and must complete a 250-hour theoretical-practical course, with a training phase and a practical phase at the Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Service of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria. Upon completion of the process, an employment pool will be created for the temporary appointment of interim civil servants, which may be accessed by those who have passed at least the first eliminatory exercise and complete the training period or prove five months of professional experience within the previous three years.

The order enters into force the day following its publication, and a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed against it before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Cantabria within two months, or an optional appeal for reversal within one month.

The call opens a stable access route to Cantabria’s emergency services and responds to the commitment to reduce temporary employment in the regional Administration. For the candidates, the calendar is demanding: the urgency processing shortens the deadlines for claims and corrections, and the first exam will not take place before January 1, 2027.
