Yaiza reopens the application period for five Local Police Officer positions
Por FactBox Admin

The Yaiza City Council (Lanzarote) has partially upheld two appeals for reconsideration filed against the call for five Local Police Officer positions and has approved the modification of the governing rules, opening a new period for the submission of applications. The decision was adopted via Mayor’s Decree No. 2026-2712, dated September 14, 2026, and is published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (Boletín Oficial de Canarias) No. 205, dated October 14, 2026, in section V of Announcements, with the official reference BOC-A-2026-205-3552.
The announcement, dated September 16, 2026, reports on the resolution of the appeals filed against Decree 2026-1583, which approved the rules and the call for the selection process. The first appeal, registration number 2026-E-RE-5615, was submitted on July 8, 2026; the second, 2026-E-RC-6807, was registered on July 10, 2026, and additionally requested the suspension of the effects of the call and its nullity. On September 11, 2026, the General Administration Technician issued the report-proposal for resolution that serves as the basis for the now-published decree.
What is upheld and what is rejected
The competent body partially upholds both appeals and agrees to rectify the material errors of the scale and correct the scoring table for the competition phase. Specifically, the following points are accepted:
- The material error in the seventh rule, which set the score for the exercises from zero to one hundred points when it should be from zero to ten, with a minimum of five to pass each test.
- The review of the valuation of commendations, distinctions, and decorations, to achieve a more balanced distribution of scores and respect the principle of equality in access to public service.
- The update of the syllabus, as it is considered that some topics are obsolete and must be adapted to current legislation.
- The technical clarification of the conversion formulas and scales of the mandatory exercises, upheld only in part.
In contrast, the remaining claims are dismissed, including the application of the second transitional provision of Decree 36/2024, of March 4, the interpretation of article 25.3 regarding the percentage of the competition phase, the lack of objectification of publications and courses, and the absence of collective bargaining. The suspension of the procedure is also rejected, as the signing technician understands that the irregularities are correctable and that the suspension would cause serious harm to the public interest due to the severe shortage of officers in the municipality. Requests relating to the temporary coverage procedure initiated in 2022 are inadmissible as they bear no direct relation to the contested act.
New deadline, fees, and submission of applications
The modification of the rules will be published in full in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas and in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, and the new application period will be twenty (20) business days starting from the publication of the summary in the Official State Gazette. The practical aspects of the procedure are:
- Examination fee: 20 euros, in accordance with the municipal tax ordinance.
- Payment via deposit or transfer to the CAIXABANK account with IBAN ES16 2100 6969 4113 0012 6017, indicating “Examen Of. Policía Local” in the concept field.
- Electronic submission through the electronic office of the Yaiza City Council, addressed to the Mayor-President.
- Access requirement: at least two years of seniority and active service in the immediately lower position, in addition to a Bachiller degree, BUP, Second Grade Vocational Training, or equivalent.
The positions and the phases of the process
The five announced positions belong to the Special Administration Scale, Special Services Subscale, Officer Class, Group C, Subgroup C1, and are filled permanently through internal promotion via a competitive examination process (concurso-oposición). The process is structured into four phases:
- Examination: a test of 60 questions in 60 minutes, two practical cases of two hours, and a voluntary language test (English, French, or German) valued at a maximum of 2 points.
- Merit assessment: up to 40 points for seniority, other public services, qualifications, training courses, publications, and police merits.
- Selective course at the Canarian Security Academy, graded as pass or fail.
- Internship period of 600 hours, after which the appointment as a career civil servant takes place.
The Qualifying Board will be collegiate and will consist of five members, with a balanced presence of women and men.
The reopening of the deadline gives applicants the opportunity to participate in a process that had been conditioned by challenges, and confirms that the call for applications is moving forward with corrected rules. Interested parties should stay alert for the publication of the summary in the Official State Gazette, as that date marks the start of the count of the twenty business days to submit their application.
