Three 45 MW BESS plants undergo public consultation in Cuenca

Three battery storage projects, one for each solar plant
The Provincial Delegation of Sustainable Development of Cuenca, attached to the Ministry of Sustainable Development of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, published on August 18, 2026 in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha (DOCM) three public information notices regarding battery energy storage facilities in the municipality of Barajas de Melo (Cuenca). The three projects —named BESS Beliuno, BESS Belidos and BESS Belitres— each have an installed capacity of 45.36 MW and aim to hybridize with as many photovoltaic solar plants already operational at the same location.
Three Basque companies, one same solar park
Each installation corresponds to a different company, although all three share their registered office at Alameda de Urquijo, 13, 1st Floor, 48008 Bilbao:
- Take Renovables, S.L.U., owner of BESS Beliuno (ref. 162706-00013, DOCM-2026/5694), which will be hybridized with the Beliuno photovoltaic plant of 49.228 MW.
- Eugaba Renovables, S.L.U., owner of BESS Belidos (ref. 162706-00014, DOCM-2026/5696), linked to the Belidos photovoltaic plant of 49.228 MW.
- Negua Renovables, S.L.U., owner of BESS Belitres (ref. 162706-00015, DOCM-2026/5695), which will hybridize with the Belitres photovoltaic plant of 49.228 MW.
The three already-built photovoltaic plants are in operation (files 162702-00783, 162702-00784 and 162702-00785, respectively). All installations share the “Barajas 30/132 kV” transformer substation, owned by Take Renovables, and connect to the Red Eléctrica de España, S.A.U. grid through the Belinchón 400 kV substation, with an access capacity of 44 MW.
Technical characteristics: Sungrow LFP batteries
The three projects share an identical technical configuration:
- 36 battery containers of electrochemical LFP (lithium iron phosphate) per installation, of the Sungrow brand, model PowerTitan 2.0 ST5015UX-4H or similar.
- Unit capacity of 5,015 kWh per container, with 6 inverters (model PCS SC210HX, 210 kW each) per unit.
- 9 power stations per project (model MVS5140-LS), with 5,140 kVA transformers that step up the voltage from 690 V to 30 kV.
- Internal and evacuation underground lines at medium voltage (30 kV), with delivery centers and modification of the “Barajas 30/132 kV” substation.
- Combined installed power of the hybridization: 50 MW per plant (solar generation + storage).
The total power of the three BESS as a whole amounts to 136.08 MW, compared to the combined 147.684 MW of the three existing photovoltaic plants.
Investment and objection period
The material execution budget for each project is as follows:
- BESS Beliuno (Take Renovables): €20,797,632.65
- BESS Belitres (Negua Renovables): €20,641,759.34
- BESS Belidos (Eugaba Renovables): €20,640,565.54
The total investment for the three facilities exceeds 62 million euros. Interested parties have a period of twenty days from the day following the publication of the notices to examine the files at the Industry and Energy Service of the Delegation in Cuenca (Parque de San Julián, No. 13) and submit any allegations they deem appropriate. The projects may also be consulted on the notice board of the Electronic Headquarters of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha.
The notices were signed on July 23, 2026 by the Provincial Delegate, José Ignacio Benito Culebras, pursuant to the provisions of Law 24/2013, of December 26, on the Electricity Sector; Decree 80/2007, of June 19, of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha; and Royal Decree 1955/2000, of December 1.
Impact: a leap in electrical storage for Castilla-La Mancha
The commissioning of these three storage plants will represent a milestone for the autonomous community in terms of electrical storage infrastructure. The hybridization of BESS with photovoltaic plants makes it possible to store the solar energy generated during the hours of greatest radiation and inject it into the grid during periods of highest demand, improving the manageability of renewable generation and contributing to the stability of the electricity system. With more than 136 MW of storage capacity concentrated in a single municipality in Cuenca, Barajas de Melo is consolidated as one of the main energy storage hubs in Castilla-La Mancha.
