Tarifa approves 1.43 million to repair storm damage
Por FactBox Admin

The Tarifa City Council has definitively approved the budget modification that enables an extraordinary credit of 1,431,910 euros to repair the damage caused by the rain, wind, and flood storms recorded in the municipality during January and February 2026. The agreement, adopted by the Plenary in an ordinary session on July 30, 2026, is now published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Cádiz (BOP) No. 201, of October 19, 2026, with the official reference No. 335,299.
Definitive approval after the public exhibition process
The file was processed as an extraordinary credit for expenses that cannot be delayed until the following fiscal year, derived from extraordinary, unforeseeable, and supervening circumstances. The initial approval was published in the BOP on August 20, 2026 (No. 262,973), opening the mandatory fifteen-business-day period for public exhibition without any claims being filed, therefore the agreement was definitively approved without the need for a new pronouncement by the Plenary.
The operation complies with Article 37.2, sections a) and b), of Royal Decree 500/1990, which requires the specific and determined nature of the expenditure and the non-existence of prior credit in the budget for that purpose. The file is listed as G2026/6573, with number 21/2026 in accounting.
Distribution of expenditure by action
The credit is distributed among five budget applications, with a clear predominance of the rural road network:
- 454/61900 Repair of lanes and local roads: €1,212,910.00
- 342/63201 Repair of the football field and La Marina sports center: €108,000.00
- 1532/61906 Repair of the promenade: €48,000.00
- 132/63202 Repair of the Local Police Headquarters: €45,000.00
- 312/63200 Repair of the Bolonia medical clinic: €18,000.00
The total amounts to 1,431,910.00 euros, an amount that coincides entirely with that allocated in economic application 87000, corresponding to the Treasury Surplus for general expenses. Therefore, no debt or new financing schemes are used: the work is paid for with savings accumulated from previous years.
Financing and signature of the announcement
The agreement is supported by the revised text of the Law Regulating Local Treasuries, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 2/2004, of March 5, and by Royal Decree 500/1990, of April 20. The official announcement is signed by the Mayor-President, José Antonio Santos Perea, and by the Acting Secretary General, Francisco Javier Ochoa Caro.
An administrative appeal may be filed against the final approval within two months from the day following the publication of the announcement in the BOP, before the competent judicial body, without prejudice to any other appeal deemed appropriate.
Impact for the municipality
The approved amount is equivalent to a significant intervention in the rural road network of Tarifa, where 84.7% of the total planned expenditure is concentrated. The repair of lanes and local roads directly affects agricultural holdings, scattered dwellings, and the access points of numerous estates within the municipal district, while smaller allocations allow for the recovery of everyday-use facilities such as the sports center, the promenade, the Local Police Headquarters, and the Bolonia clinic. With the publication in the BOP, the file is administratively closed and the City Council can begin the contracting and execution of works that arrive nearly nine months after the storms.
