Por FactBox Admin

Sigüenza aprueba renombrar once calles con nombres de la dictadura

The Sigüenza City Council has initially approved the renaming of eleven public roads located in the urban center and the annexed nuclei of Alboreca, Alcuneza, Palazuelos, and Pelegrina, with the aim of removing references linked to the dictatorship from the street map. The agreement was adopted by the Plenary in an ordinary session on September 30, 2026, and is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Guadalajara number 189, corresponding to Monday, October 5, 2026. The file is now open for a thirty-day period for allegations.

The announcement, signed by the mayor-president María Jesús Merino Poyo in Sigüenza on October 1, 2026, submits the file to public information in compliance with article 83.2 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations. The thirty-day period is counted from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official Gazette of the Province of Guadalajara and on the electronic headquarters of the Sigüenza City Council (http://siguenza.sedelectronica.es), where the text is also displayed on the Edicts Board.

This is an initial approval, meaning that the modification of the street map will not be effective until the public information process is resolved. The document includes as ANNEX I the complete list of affected roads, with the new name, the previous one, and the sections delimited by the starting and ending streets.

Eleven roads in five population centers

The published list affects a total of eleven roads distributed among five centers: Alboreca, Alcuneza, Sigüenza, Palazuelos, and Pelegrina. Palazuelos concentrates seven of the eleven changes, while Alboreca, Alcuneza, Sigüenza, and Pelegrina record one modification each.

  • Alboreca: Calle de los Caídos becomes Calle Sierra Ministra, between Calle Travesaña Baja and Calle de las Heras.
  • Alcuneza: Calle José Antonio becomes Calle de la Iglesia, between Calle del Nacimiento and the Cañada Real.
  • Sigüenza: Calle Juan Pardo Gayoso becomes Calle Obispo Vejarano, between Calle Ramón y Cajal and Paseo de los Arcos.
  • Palazuelos: Plaza del Generalísimo becomes Plaza Mayor; Plaza de José Antonio, Plaza de la Fuente; Calle Calvo Sotelo, Calle Mayor; Calle Capitán Muntadas, Calle Callejón de En Medio; Calle General Mola, Travesía de los Castillejos; Calle Comandante Gallego, Calle de Castilla; and Calle Capitán Maján, Calle de los Rincones.
  • Pelegrina: Calle Capitán Don Arturo Calderón becomes Calle El Acierto, between Calle Castillo and Camino Arrencel.

The names disappearing from the street map

Among the names being removed are references to positions and hierarchies of the dictatorship, such as Generalísimo, General Mola, José Antonio, Calvo Sotelo, Capitán Muntadas, Comandante Gallego, Capitán Maján, and Capitán Don Arturo Calderón. The street of the Fallen in Alboreca and Juan Pardo Gayoso street in Sigüenza are also being replaced.

The new names recover toponyms and heritage elements from each center: Sierra Ministra, de la Iglesia, Obispo Vejarano, Mayor, de la Fuente, Callejón de En Medio, de los Castillejos, de Castilla, de los Rincones, and El Acierto. In Palazuelos, the sections are delimited between the plaza del Generalísimo and the plaza de Fuente de los Seis Caños, between the calle de las Campana and the calle Calvo Sotelo, or between the calle Monte and the plaza de Fuente de los Seis Caños, depending on the road.

Allegations and effects on addresses

Any interested person may examine the file at the municipal offices and on the electronic headquarters of the Sigüenza City Council during the thirty days following publication, and submit any allegations they deem appropriate. The modification affects the official name of the roads, which is the reference appearing in postal addresses and in the administrative records of the affected centers.

The announcement includes a verification code (19b3568c4de07d46b6025805126c89800368dc61) for the validation of the document through the electronic headquarters of the Official Gazette of the Province of Guadalajara.

The change of name for these eleven roads entails the removal of names linked to the dictatorship from the street map of Sigüenza and its annexed centers, a measure that will affect the identification of homes, businesses, and estates in Alboreca, Alcuneza, Palazuelos, and Pelegrina once the allegations process is concluded.
