Six justices of the peace appointed in five municipalities of the province of Huesca
Por FactBox Admin

The Commission of the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Aragon has agreed to the appointment of six justices of the peace in the province of Huesca, four of them as principals and two as substitutes, according to the edict published by the Government Secretariat of the Aragonese high court in the Official Gazette of the Province of Huesca number 212, dated November 5, 2026 (pp. 79 to 81). The agreement was adopted at the meeting held on October 9, 2026, and was signed in Zaragoza on October 28, 2026, by the Government Secretary, María Dolores Yuste González de Rueda, with reference number 4925 and official identifier BOPH-2026-212042.
The appointment is based on the Organic Law of the Judiciary and Regulation number 3/1995, of June 7, on Justices of the Peace, whose article 8 requires the agreement to be made public via edict in the official provincial gazette. The published list affects five municipalities distributed across four judicial districts—Boltaña, Huesca, Jaca, and Monzón—all of which are markedly rural, where the justice of the peace assumes functions of the civil registry, conciliation, and judicial assistance in the first instance.
The six names in the annex
The annex of the edict, titled “List of Justices of the Peace,” details the appointees municipality by municipality:
- María Luisa Cavero Arasanz, principal justice of the peace of Laspuña (Boltaña judicial district).
- Lourdes Silles Sazatornil, principal justice of the peace of Bárcabo (Boltaña judicial district).
- Ana Torres Torres, substitute justice of the peace of Bárcabo (Boltaña judicial district).
- Celso Domingo Martínez Pintado, principal justice of the peace of Siétamo (Huesca judicial district).
- Natalia Sánchez Escartín, principal justice of the peace of Sabiñánigo (Jaca judicial district).
- Pilar Meler Sanvicente, substitute justice of the peace of Peralta de Calasanz (Monzón judicial district).
The official document identifies each person with their initials and the last four digits of their national identity document, which appear partially hidden in the publication.
Twenty days to take office
The appointees must take office within twenty calendar days following the date of publication of their appointment in the Official Gazette of the Province, following the appropriate oath. With the publication of November 5, 2026, as a reference, that period would end on November 25, 2026.
The taking of office is formalized before the corresponding judicial body of the district and constitutes the preliminary step to the effective exercise of functions: the substitution of the civil registry in municipalities without an appointed judge, intervention in conciliation acts, and assistance tasks for the courts of first instance and instruction.
Appeal before the General Council of the Judiciary
The edict recalls, in application of Article 12 of Regulation 3/1995, that an administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) or a review appeal may be filed against the agreement of the Commission of the Governing Chamber before the Plenary of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), within the time limits, grounds, and forms established by Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.
The resolution bears the seal of the Government Secretariat of the High Court of Justice of Aragon and is published in the Administration of Justice section of the provincial bulletin, without the edict including any municipalities other than the five mentioned.
The appointment guarantees the continuity of the judicial service in five small-population town councils in Huesca, where the justice of the peace is often the only daily legal reference for the residents. The renewal of holders and substitutes prevents gaps in the civil registry and in conciliation functions, and transfers to the town councils the task of facilitating the taking of office and the implementation of the new responsibilities within a period of barely three weeks.
