Santander opens 50,000 euro grants to hire people with disabilities

The Santander City Council has announced grants aimed at non-profit entities for the hiring of people with disabilities, as part of the Santander te Apoya program for the 2026 fiscal year. The agreement of the Local Government Board is published as an extract in the Official Gazette of Cantabria (BOC) No. 182, dated September 22, 2026, with the official reference CVE-2026-7284 and identification number in the National Grants Database 929769. The call is processed under a competitive bidding regime and has a total budget of 50,000.00 euros.

Purpose and Beneficiaries

The purpose of the aid is to support the hiring of people with a recognized disability of at least 33%, with the aim of improving their employability and their personal and economic autonomy through their incorporation into social entities.

The following may apply for the grants:

• Formally constituted non-profit entities.
• Those that meet the requirements of the Second Base of the regulatory bases.
• Entities whose purpose includes the labor promotion of people with disabilities.

The subsidized positions must correspond to new workers who carry out their professional activity in the municipality of Santander, for a period of one year.

Amount, Deadlines, and Justification

The call grants up to 100% of the amount requested, provided that no entity exceeds 15,000 euros in subsidies. Entities that hire personnel above this limit must co-finance the difference.

The application period remains open throughout the fiscal year. The grants are awarded upon mere verification of compliance with the requirements, based on the chronological order of the application and until the budget is exhausted, in accordance with Article 12.2, second paragraph, of the Ordinance.

Once the award has been notified, the entity has a maximum period of two months to formalize the contracts subject to the grant. Payment is made through advance payments, a modality subject to the limits of Law 10/2006, of July 17, on Subsidies of Cantabria. Upon completion of the contracts, the justification must be submitted within a maximum period of two months, admitting only salary and social security costs of the new workers, with the exception of severance payments.

Regulatory Framework and Processing

The extract is published in accordance with Articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies, and the full text can be consulted in the National Grants Database.

The regulatory bases for these grants were approved by the Local Governing Board on March 23, 2026, and published in the BOC no. 64, of April 6, 2026. The documents that must accompany the application are those determined in the Fourth Base of said bases.

The agreement was signed in Santander on September 16, 2026, by the delegated councilwoman for Social Services, Family, Health, Personal Autonomy, and Equality, Zulema Gancedo González.

Impact for associations and job seekers

The call offers local associations a stable funding route to create jobs for people with disabilities, with a simplified procedure based on the verification of requirements and the order of receipt of the applications. For job seekers with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%, the program opens the door to one-year contracts in social entities within the municipality, provided that the 50,000 euro credit is not exhausted beforehand.
