Market withdrawal of SMH Line SM-108 gas hobs
Por FactBox Admin

SMH Line brand gas hobs, type SM-108 (EAN code 9503667426349), are being withdrawn from the Belgian market. The decision stems from a ministerial decree of August 31, 2026, signed in Brussels by the Minister of Consumer Protection and the Minister of Energy, and published in the Belgian Official Gazette on September 15, 2026, page 50118.
The product, placed on the market by the Dutch company Hanna Trading VOF (Zoddenbergstraat 65, 7572 TS Oldenzaal, company number 0750.708.140, KvK number 96937459), was judged non-compliant with the essential safety requirements applicable to appliances burning gaseous fuels.
Non-compliance identified during an online check
On July 8, 2025, a sample of the hob was collected online for inspection from the platform Amazon Europe Core S.A.R.L. (amazon.com.be, Avenue John F. Kennedy 38, L-1855 Luxembourg, company number 0553.907.909, RCS B101818), in application of Article XV.3, 7°, of the Code of Economic Law.
The product falls under Regulation (EU) 2016/426 of the European Parliament and of the Council of March 9, 2016, concerning appliances burning gaseous fuels. The checks highlighted several failures:
- the manufacturer’s full postal address is not indicated on the product, in violation of Article 7, paragraph 6, of the regulation;
- the EU type-examination certificate (Module B) provided does not contain the data necessary to identify the approved type;
- the quality system approval according to Module D does not allow it to be established that the inspected product corresponds to the described type;
- the product, presented as compliant with the EN 17476:2021 + A1:2022 standard, does not satisfy paragraphs 5.28 and 6.28 of this standard, relating to safety at high temperatures.
A procedure based on the Code of Economic Law
The decree is based on Article IX.4, § 2, of the Code of Economic Law, as amended by the law of April 18, 2017. The producer and manufacturer, Hanna Trading VOF, was previously consulted on March 23, 2026, without succeeding in demonstrating that the product met the essential safety requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/426, nor the general safety obligation referred to in Article IX.2 of the Code of Economic Law.
Considering that it was not demonstrated that the conformity assessment procedure provided for in Article 14 of the regulation had been correctly applied, the ministers deemed it necessary, in the interest of user safety, to prevent this product from being on the Belgian market and to order its withdrawal.
Implementation modalities
The decree provides for the following provisions:
- the withdrawal from the market of SMH Line gas hobs of type SM-108 with EAN code 9503667426349;
- the notification of the decision to the producer and to the Special Advisory Commission for Consumption no later than fifteen days after entry into force;
- the entry into force on the day following publication in the Belgian Official Gazette.
A warning for consumers
This decision constitutes a safety alert for Belgian consumers who have acquired this model of gas hob. Non-compliance with safety requirements at high temperatures poses a risk of incident during use. Owners of the appliance are urged to stop using it and to contact the seller or the producer to find out the procedures for withdrawal and reimbursement.
