President Appoints Loh Khum Yean to Monetary Authority of Singapore Board

The President has appointed Loh Khum Yean to be a Director of the Board of Directors of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, with the appointment running from 1 November 2026 to 31 May 2029, both dates inclusive. The appointment was made in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8(1) of the Monetary Authority of Singapore Act 1970. It is published in Gazette No. 6112 of Friday, 16 October 2026, among the notices under other Acts.

The notice is headed “Appointment of Director of Board of Directors of Monetary Authority of Singapore” and states that it is notified “for general information” that the President has made the appointment. The gazette carrying it was first published on www.egazette.gov.sg at 2 pm on 16 October 2026. The notification carries the file reference [PPC-PC004/1998/V17].

The instrument is a short, single-paragraph notification of a board-level change at the central bank. It records the appointing authority, the statutory provision relied on, the name of the appointee, the office conferred and the exact period of the appointment, and nothing further.

The term of appointment

The dates in the notice set a fixed term of two years and seven months, or 31 months, with both the opening and closing dates counted as part of the appointment.

  • Appointee: Mr Loh Khum Yean
  • Office: Director of the Board of Directors of the Monetary Authority of Singapore
  • Appointing authority: the President
  • Legal basis: section 8(1), Monetary Authority of Singapore Act 1970
  • Start of term: 1 November 2026
  • End of term: 31 May 2029 (both dates inclusive)
  • Publication: Gazette No. 6112, 16 October 2026, first published at 2 pm

The start date falls 16 days after publication of the notice, so the appointment takes effect at the beginning of November rather than on the date of notification.

What the notice does and does not record

The notification is confined to the appointment itself. It does not announce any revocation or cessation of an existing directorship, does not name any other director, and does not set out the terms of remuneration or the responsibilities attaching to the seat.

The only official identifiers attached to the instrument are the gazette number, No. 6112, and the reference [PPC-PC004/1998/V17]. The notice is issued under the Monetary Authority of Singapore Act 1970, the statute cited in its heading and in the operative paragraph.

Why the seat matters

The appointment places Loh Khum Yean on the board of the body that the notice identifies as the Monetary Authority of Singapore, at a time when the gazette record also shows legislative work touching the authority’s remit, including amendments to the Financial Services and Markets Act 2022 and related financial statutes.

For institutions and market participants operating under MAS oversight, a board appointment is a governance event rather than a change of rules: it alters the composition of the body that directs the authority, while leaving the statutory framework and supervisory instruments in force untouched.

The practical effect for readers is a dated, verifiable record. Anyone tracking the central bank’s governance now has an official confirmation that the seat is filled from 1 November 2026 and that the term expires on 31 May 2029, with the gazette notice as the primary reference for that fact.
