Mineduc aprueba pago del bono extraordinario para asistentes de la educación

The Ministry of Education, through the Undersecretariat of Education, approved the procedure for the payment of the annual extraordinary bonus regulated in the eleventh transitory article of Law No. 21,819, by means of Exempt Resolution No. 4,029, dated July 6, 2026. The regulation was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Chile No. 44,550, on Monday, September 14, 2026, and bears the signatures of Minister María Paz Arzola González and Undersecretary Daniel Rodríguez Morales.

The benefit, funded by the treasury, is granted as a one-time payment to education assistants working in establishments dependent on municipalities or municipal corporations, as well as in establishments governed by Decree Law No. 3,166 of 1980, whose transfer date of the educational service to a Local Public Education Service was extended by at least one year, with less than six months’ notice prior to the date set in the current calendar of Decree No. 162 of 2022.

Requirements and Beneficiaries

To access the bonus, assistants must cumulatively meet a series of conditions:

  • Work in establishments dependent on municipalities or municipal corporations governed by Decree with Force of Law No. 2 of 1998, or in establishments governed by Decree Law No. 3,166 of 1980.
  • The transfer of the educational service must have been extended by at least one year, with less than six months’ notice prior to the date according to the current calendar.
  • Have a valid contract as of the transfer date according to the current calendar.
  • Maintain a valid contract, without interruption, at the time of payment of each installment.

Kindergarten assistants funded via fund transfers from the National Board of Kindergartens, administered by municipalities or municipal corporations, are also eligible, though they will only be entitled to the biennial component. Those who have opted for the voluntary postponement of the transfer regulated in the tenth transitory article of Law No. 21,040 are excluded.

Amount and Form of Payment

The amount of the bonus is determined according to two rules: a component equivalent to 7.2 times the difference between the gross monthly remuneration of January of the payment year and the amounts in Article 21 of Law No. 19,429, and a component for bienniums of service with the current employer, up to a maximum of fifteen bienniums. The annual amounts per biennium according to category are:

  • Professional: $72,088
  • Technical: $60,880
  • Administrative: $57,232
  • Auxiliary: $51,424

The bonus is granted to those who work a standard forty-four hour weekly workweek, and is paid proportionally for shorter workweeks. It will be paid, as a one-time payment, in four installments in the months of March, June, September, and December of the year prior to the effective transfer of the educational service, provided that the beneficiary maintains a current contract at the time of payment of each installment.

Nature of the benefit and financing

The bonus shall not be subject to social security contributions or taxes and shall not serve as a calculation base for any other allowance, and is incompatible with the bonus granted by the fourth transitory article of Law No. 21,544. Maintainers must submit the supporting documentation to the respective Regional Ministerial Secretariat or the Undersecretariat of Early Childhood Education to certify the requirements, within the first five business days of the month prior to the payment of the first installment.

The benefit will be financed from the current budget of the Ministry of Education and, for any shortfall, from the Public Treasury Budget Item. The accountability process shall be governed by Resolution No. 2, of 2026, of the Comptroller General of the Republic.

The publication of this procedure provides legal certainty to thousands of municipal education assistants who, given the extension of their transfer to Local Services, will see a fiscally funded economic benefit materialized in four installments during the year prior to the effective transfer of their services.
