Meira approves the tax register for the water and sewage fee

Por FactBox Admin

The Meira City Council approved by mayoral resolution, dated August 25, 2026, the tax register for the fee for the provision of water services, drains, waste, and the Xunta water canon, corresponding to the 3rd bimester of the 2025 fiscal year. The announcement is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Lugo number 199, of September 1, 2026, with reference R. 2324, and affects all taxpayers of the municipality.

The measure opens a public information period of one month from the publication of the edict, during which interested parties may consult the content of the register at the City Council Secretariat and present any allegations they deem appropriate. Simultaneously, the voluntary payment period remains open, extending from August 25 to October 25, 2026.

Deadlines and payment procedures

The register incorporates the settlements of municipal taxes and enables the following deadlines and channels of action:

  • Public information period: one month from publication in the BOP, with consultation at the City Council Secretariat.
  • Voluntary payment period: from August 25 to October 25, 2026.
  • Appeal for reversal (Recurso de reposición): one month from the day following the end of the public exhibition of the register.
  • Contentious-administrative appeal: before the Contentious-Administrative Court of Lugo, without both avenues being able to be pursued simultaneously.

Once the voluntary payment period has elapsed, debts to the municipality will be demanded through the enforcement procedure, with the corresponding late payment surcharge and any costs incurred.

Xunta water canon

Failure to pay the Xunta water canon during the indicated voluntary period will result in the demand for payment directly from the taxpayer via the enforcement route, processed by the competent department for treasury matters of the Xunta de Galicia. The repercussion of the canon may be subject to an economic-administrative claim before the economic-administrative body of the Autonomous Community of Galicia, within one month from notification.

Nature of the notification

The announcement serves as a collective notification, under the provisions of Article 102 of the General Tax Law and Articles 23 and 24 of Royal Decree 939/2005, of July 29, which approves the General Collection Regulations. The edict is signed by the mayor, Antonio de Dios Álvarez.

The publication of this register allows the residents of Meira to regularize their municipal and regional tax obligations within the deadline, avoiding surcharges and enforcement procedures, in a management process that directly affects all households in the municipality.
