The Belgian Official Gazette publishes the appointment of 70 candidate magistrates

The Belgian Official Gazette (Moniteur belge) of September 23, 2026, publishes, on pages 51286 to 51291, the appointment of 70 candidate magistrates by royal decrees of September 15, 2026, effective October 1, 2026. The provision, published under reference C − 2026/006915, distributes the new magistrates-in-training between the courts and tribunals (24) and the public prosecutor’s office (46). It is supplemented, in the same issue, by the assignments decided on September 21, 2026, and by two blocks of decrees dedicated to transfers and promotions.

The appointments fall under the judicial internship regime of the Judicial Code: candidate magistrates first serve as magistrates-in-training within a court of appeal district before their final appointment. The royal decrees of September 15, 2026, cover the five districts of the country — Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Liège, and Mons — and concern both the bench and the prosecution.

On the same day, ministerial decrees of September 21, 2026, specify the jurisdiction or prosecutor’s office where each candidate will perform their duties. Two other publications, referenced C − 2026/006782 and C − 2026/006783, complete the set with transfers, one promotion, and a temporary delegation.

A contingent divided between the bench and the prosecution

• Courts and tribunals: 24 candidates, including 7 for the Ghent district, 5 for Antwerp, 5 for Liège, 4 for Brussels, and 3 for Mons.
• Public prosecutor’s office: 46 candidates, including 15 for the Brussels district, 11 for Liège, 10 for Antwerp, 6 for Mons, and 4 for Ghent.
• Among the published names are Desnyder E., De Metsenaere L., Cardinaels J., De Weerdt V., and Ruysschaert V. (Antwerp), Vanhoof H., de Borchgrave S., Daem P., and Mbuyi Kabong B. (Brussels), Allary N., Hamerlinck W., Tavernier L., Vandercruyssen T., Onderbeke S., Appels J., and Proot A. (Ghent), Brandt S., Limbrée P., Alfano L., Stoffels K., and Dale Del Tedesco M. (Liège), Dugauquier A., Jonard C., and Debaille V. (Mons).

Assignments decided on September 21, 2026

• Courts of first instance: Antwerp (4), East Flanders (3), Hainaut (3), West Flanders (2), Liège (2), then Limburg, French-speaking Brussels, Leuven and Eupen (1 each).
• Labour courts: Dutch-speaking Brussels (de Borchgrave S.), French-speaking Brussels (Mbuyi Kabong B.) and Eupen (Dale Del Tedesco M.).
• Enterprise courts: Antwerp (Cardinaels J.), Dutch-speaking Brussels (Daem P.) and Ghent (Onderbeke S.).
• Public prosecutor’s offices: Brussels (9), Antwerp (7), Liège (5), Limburg, Halle-Vilvorde, Mons and Charleroi (3 each), Walloon Brabant, East Flanders and Namur (2 each), West Flanders and Luxembourg (1 each).
• Labour auditorates: Liège (3), Antwerp (Heylen L.) and Hainaut (Charlier A.).

Transfers, promotion and delegation

• Bogar R., secretary at the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, is appointed by transfer at the same grade to the federal public prosecutor’s office (Royal Decree of September 3, 2026), effective the first day of the month following publication.
• Reuter S. is appointed as a trainee in class A1 with the title of prosecutor’s office legal officer within the jurisdiction of the Liège court of appeal (Royal Decree of September 8, 2026), then designated to practice at the Eupen public prosecutor’s office (Ministerial Decree of September 8, 2026).
• Jonckheere A., attaché in class A2 at the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office, is appointed to class A3 with the title of chief secretary of service.
• Caneve P., attaché in class A1 at the Liège labour auditorate, is temporarily delegated to the functions of chief secretary of service in class A2 (C − 2026/006783).
• At the labour court of Antwerp, district of Limburg, IATRAKIS Evaggelos, permanent social judge as a self-employed worker, is granted an honorable resignation as of October 1, 2026.

These appointments take effect on October 1, 2026, and serve to strengthen the staff of the courts and public prosecutor’s offices for the coming months. Individual acts published in the Belgian Official Gazette may be subject to an application for annulment before the administrative litigation section of the Council of State within sixty days following their publication.
