La Universidad de La Laguna convoca tres plazas de Profesor Ayudante Doctor

The University of La Laguna has announced a public competition for the provision of three temporary contracted teaching and research positions, under labor law, in the role of Assistant Professor Doctor. The call is approved by Resolution of October 14, 2026, from the Vice-Rectorate for Teaching and Research Staff and is published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (Boletín Oficial de Canarias) no. 215, of October 27, 2026, within the section for Competitive Examinations and contests of other public administrations (reference boc-a-2026-215-3700). The deadline for submitting applications is ten business days starting from the day following the publication of the call.

The framework: teaching talent funded by agreement

The positions are announced in execution of the agreement signed between the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Department of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, the University of La Laguna, and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for the implementation of the Program for the Incorporation of Teaching and Research Talent into Spanish Public Universities, as provided for in Chapter IV of Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, on the University System.

The immediate precedent is the call for sixty-three Assistant Professor Doctor positions approved on March 18, 2025, by the General Directorate for Planning, Innovation and University Quality. The three positions now offered became vacant following the resignation of the contracts by the successful candidates in that call, as stated in the resolution itself.

The call is governed by the Regulations for the development of competitions for access to labor teaching and research staff positions at the University of La Laguna, approved by Resolution of December 23, 2024 (Official Gazette of the Canary Islands of January 7, 2025) and modified by Resolution of July 28, 2026 (Official Gazette of the Canary Islands no. 160, of August 11, 2026).

Three positions, three departments

The annex of the resolution details the positions, all full-time and with the maximum duration established by Article 78 of Organic Law 2/2023:

  • DL2362: Department of Business Administration and Economic History, area of Business Organization, attached to the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism; teaching and research in Business Organization.
  • DL2373: Department of Spanish Philology, area of Spanish Literature, assigned to the faculties of Humanities, Economics, Business and Tourism, Education and Social Sciences, and Communication; teaching and research in Spanish Literature.
  • DL2399: Department of Cognitive, Social and Organizational Psychology, area of Basic Psychology, attached to the Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy; teaching and research in Basic Psychology.

Requirements, fee, and process calendar

Those in possession of a Doctorate degree—with prior equivalence if the degree is foreign—who have not completed the six-year period as an Assistant Doctor Professor in accordance with Article 78 of the law may apply. Current accreditation in that role is considered a preferential merit for four years following the approval of Organic Law 2/2023.

The application is submitted via the electronic office, one for each position, with a fee of fifteen euros for examination rights; non-payment within the deadline is a non-remediable defect. The Vice-Rectorate will resolve the provisional list of admitted and excluded candidates within a maximum of fifteen business days, with ten business days provided for corrections.

The subsequent calendar is as follows: selection committees must be constituted within twenty business days from the final list; the provision proposal is published in the month following its constitution; and the maximum period to resolve the competition is three months from the publication of the final list. The contracts are full-time, with a maximum of 180 teaching hours per course, a duration not exceeding six years, and an effective date from October 1, 2026. The competition is resolved by the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Research Staff, Alfonso Ruiz Rallo, by delegation of the Rector according to the Resolution of May 12, 2023.

The call ends the administrative route: a contentious-social appeal may be filed within two months before the Social Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife or, optionally, a motion for reconsideration before the Rector within one month.

Why it matters

For doctors and researchers seeking academic stabilization in the Canary Islands, this is one of the few open windows this academic year: three temporary job positions, but with a trajectory of up to six years and linked to a state program for attracting talent. The margin is short—ten business days—and the required documentation is extensive, including a scored curriculum and supporting documents for each merit, making the prior preparation of the file decisive.
