La Rioja grants 118,000 euros to municipalities for sports equipment

The Regional Ministry of Culture, Tourism, Sport and Youth of the Government of La Rioja has granted subsidies to dozens of Riojan city councils to provide equipment for their municipal sports facilities. The distribution is formalized through Resolution 557/2026, of August 31, published in the Official Gazette of La Rioja number 169, of September 3, 2026, in section III of Other Provisions and Acts.

The resolution, signed by the regional minister José Luis Pérez Pastor in Logroño on July 31, 2026, authorizes a total expenditure of 118,000 euros charged to budget item 2026 0704 3411 761.00. The regulatory framework consists of Order 36/2023, of June 2, which establishes the regulatory bases for sports subsidies, and Resolution 526/2026, of March 23, which called for aid to local entities for the provision of equipment in sports facilities under their ownership.

Beneficiaries and distribution criteria

The aid is granted to local entities that obtained at least 40% of the total possible points, in accordance with article 5 of the call for applications resolution. The entity with the highest score receives a subsidy equivalent to 70% of its eligible budget. As there was insufficient authorized credit, all amounts have been proportionally reduced.

Among the beneficiary city councils are, among others:

• Haro (€5,275.85): dumbbells, ping-pong table, and protection nets.
• Baños de Río Tobía (€15,261.97): gym equipment and padel courts.
• Villamediana de Iregua (€11,151.59): gym equipment, tatami, mats, and padel court.
• Alfaro (€7,837.17): track protectors and basketball hoops.
• Aldeanueva de Ebro (€7,226.35): gym machine and wall protector.
• Torrecilla en Cameros (€5,965.35): gym equipment.
• Cervera del Río Alhama (€3,244.50 and €4,388.08): calisthenics park and ping-pong table with benches and lockers.

Excluded items and waivers

The resolution considers requests that are not regarded as sports or complementary equipment, as well as non-inventoriable sports equipment, to be outside the scope of the call. Excluded cases include those of Albelda de Iregua, Alberite, Alfaro, Anguiano, Ausejo, Brieva de Cameros, Canales de la Sierra, Corera, El Rasillo, Enciso, and Entrena, among others.

During the processing, the city councils of Enciso and Villoslada de Cameros waived the subsidy proposed in the provisional resolution. Likewise, the application from the City Council of Nieva de Cameros is considered withdrawn for failing to correct its application in a timely and proper manner, in accordance with article 68.1 of Law 39/2015 on Common Administrative Procedure.

Processing and appeals

The file followed the ordinary procedure: report from the assessment body on June 24, 2026, provisional proposal on June 25, a ten-day period for submissions, report on submissions on July 13, and final proposal on July 15. The General Comptroller’s Office issued a report without objections on July 30, 2026.

The resolution, which exhausts administrative remedies, is published in the Official Gazette of La Rioja and on the virtual notice board of the Government of La Rioja. An appeal for judicial review may be filed against it before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the High Court of Justice of La Rioja within two months, or, optionally, a request for reconsideration may be filed before the regional minister within one month.

The funding will allow Riojan city councils to renew and expand the equipment of their sports facilities, from gyms and calisthenics parks to goalposts, basketball hoops, and ping-pong tables, with a direct impact on the users of municipal sports infrastructures throughout the community.
