The Provincial Council announces the call for the Provincial Fire Sergeant talent pool

The Provincial Council of Zamora has approved the guidelines for the creation of a Type B Sergeant’s Pool for firefighters, intended to cover appointments for interim civil servants of the new Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Service. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Zamora number 106, dated September 11, 2026, by means of decree 2026-5734, dated September 4, 2026, from the Presidency of the corporation.

The pool will be shared between the Provincial Council and the Provincial Consortium for Fire Prevention and Extinction, Rescue, and Civil Protection of Zamora, an entity attached to the institution, until the time of its dissolution, scheduled for December 31, 2026. The process responds to the creation of a provincial firefighter corps and is part of the human resources operational plan agreed upon with the trade unions.

A process negotiated with the unions

The call stems from the agreement reached on August 6, 2026, at the entity’s General Negotiation Table with the unions CC.OO., CSIF, UGT, and USO, which approved the human resources operational plan for the establishment of the fire extinction service. The Presidency reclaimed the competence delegated to the Governing Board through decree 2024-1822, dated April 11, 2024, exclusively to adopt this resolution.

The advertised position corresponds to Group A, Subgroup A2, of the special administration scale, special services subscale, fire prevention, extinction, and rescue services class, technical corps. The management of the pool will comply with the Regulation for the Composition and Management of Job Pools of the Provincial Council, published in BOP number 31, dated March 12, 2008.

Requirements and submission of applications

Applicants must meet the following general requirements:

• Hold Spanish nationality and be at least 18 years old, without exceeding the compulsory retirement age.
• Possess a university Bachelor’s degree.
• Hold a Class C driving license and the navigation license regulated in RD 875/2014.
• Not be subject to the causes for exclusion listed in the medical exclusion table of Annex I of the guidelines.

Applications should preferably be submitted electronically through the Provincial Council’s registry within five business days starting from the day following the publication of the call in the BOP. Failure to submit in a timely and proper manner will result in the applicant’s exclusion.

Competitive examination in two phases

The selection system will be a competitive examination (concurso-oposición), with an examination phase of up to 20 points and a merit phase of up to 8 points:

• Opposition phase: a two-part eliminatory exercise, consisting of a 60-question multiple-choice test in 60 minutes and one or several practical cases of up to two hours.
• Competition phase: assessment of merits based on experience (up to 4 points), training courses (up to 3 points), and additional academic qualifications (up to 1 point).

The final grade will be the sum of both phases, with tie-breaking criteria that prioritize the opposition score and previous experience as a Sergeant, corporal, or firefighter. The qualifying board will be composed of career civil servants and will be published on the Electronic Office and on the Provincial Council’s website.

A step toward the provincial fire department

The call for applications represents a milestone in the configuration of the new provincial fire extinguishing service, which will absorb the functions of the consortium until its dissolution at the end of 2026. For applicants, it opens a path to public employment in a specialized technical category, and for the province, it guarantees the agile filling of command positions in an essential citizen protection service.
