La Conselleria de Famílies destina 500.000 euros a la garantia alimentària

The Department of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care has approved a call for grants totaling 500,000 euros for non-profit entities that develop food guarantee programs in the Balearic Islands. The resolution, signed by the counselor Sandra Fernández Herranz on September 28, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) no. 126, of October 6, 2026, with the code BDNS 931838. The grants aim to address the economic effects of the conflict in the Middle East on people and families in situations of precariousness.

The call is framed within the Agreement of the Governing Council of May 8, 2026, which took note of the social response measures facing the increase in costs derived from the conflict in the Middle East. That agreement included an additional allocation of 500,000 euros for the 2026 food guarantee program, which is now specified in this call and is added to the call approved by the Resolution of November 7, 2025 (BOIB no. 149, of November 11, 2025).

The regulatory bases are the Order of the Counselor of Social Affairs and Sports of March 5, 2021 (BOIB no. 34, of March 11, 2021), and the procedure is processed through a non-competitive system. The instructing body is the General Directorate of Social Welfare, while the granting resolution corresponds to the counselor. The summary of the call is also published in Section V of the same BOIB.

Three modalities and a 500,000 euro budget

The maximum budget is 500,000.00 euros, charged to the budget item 17401.313E01.48000.00 of the general budgets of the Autonomous Community extended for the 2026 financial year. The distribution by modalities is indicative and the amounts for the three are linked, with an order of priority for the unexhausted credit of modalities 2, 1, and 3:

  • Modality 1, food distribution projects among entities dedicated to food distribution: 100,000.00 euros.
  • Modality 2, distribution projects of food and basic necessity products serving users from one or more municipalities: 387,444.13 euros.
  • Modality 3, social canteen projects: 12,555.87 euros.

The maximum subsidizable amount per entity is 10,000 euros for modality 1, 85,000 euros for modality 2, and 10,000 euros for modality 3. If the sum of the admitted requests exceeds the assigned budget, the amount is prorated among the beneficiary entities according to the amount initially requested.

Requirements and deadlines for entities

Private non-profit entities with a minimum seniority of two years may apply for the grants, provided they are registered as social service providers in the Unified Registry of Social Services of the Balearic Islands, have a headquarters or a permanent and active delegation in the islands, and are up to date with their tax and Social Security obligations. Federations, confederations, coordinators, and unions of associations, as well as foundations established by legal entities of a public nature, are excluded.

The deadline for submitting applications is ten business days starting from the day after publication in the BOIB, via electronic means through the Electronic Office of the Autonomous Community. The eligible period spans from January 1 to December 31, 2026, and the maximum deadline to resolve and publish the resolutions is six months.

Specific requirements for each modality:

  • Modality 2: prove the participation of volunteers in 2025 (75 in Mallorca, 30 in Menorca and Ibiza, 15 in Formentera) and serve a minimum number of families or direct beneficiaries annually (750, 600, and 300, respectively).
  • Modality 3: a minimum of ten volunteer persons and 450 weekly deliveries.

Advance payment and justification

The payment of 100% of the grant will be made in advance, as a down payment, and the beneficiary entity is exempt from presenting any guarantee, in accordance with the prior authorization of the Agreement of the Governing Council of September 4, 2026. Entities must justify the project by March 31, 2027, at the latest, through a justification account with an audit report; an extension deadline may be requested until February 28, 2027.

The call comes at a time of increasing pressure on social services and the third sector, and expands the funding for entities that distribute food and manage social dining halls in the Balearic Islands. For individuals and families in a situation of economic precariousness, the grants translate into food and basic necessity products, with the stated objective of reducing vulnerability and social exclusion.
