La Comarca de Sobrarbe convoca el concurso del cartel de Espiello XXIV

The Comarca de Sobrarbe has announced the competition for the selection of the promotional poster and the cover of the program for ESPIELLO XXIV, the Sobrarbe International Ethnographic Documentary Festival. The rules are published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Huesca number 193, corresponding to Thursday, October 8, 2026, in the Local Administration section, under the official reference BOPH-2026-193012. The deadline for submitting proposals is one month from the day following the publication of the call’s summary.

The announcement is supported by the provisions of articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of the General Subsidies Law 38/2003, of November 17, and its summary appears in the National Subsidies Database with the identifier BDNS 934055. The full text can be consulted on the Infosubvenciones portal. The rules were signed in Boltaña on October 7, 2026, by the president of the regional institution, José Manuel Bielsa Manzano.

The purpose of the call is the selection of the official festival poster, as well as the cover of its program and other graphic applications derived from the event’s image. The festival will be held in Boltaña from March 12 to 21, 2027.

Open to any age and nationality

Individuals or groups of any age and nationality may participate, with a maximum of three proposals per participant. The following are excluded:

  • Persons who are part of the festival organization or are involved in the selection process.
  • Members of the jury.
  • The author of the winning poster from the immediately preceding edition.

In the case of minors, participation will require the authorization of their legal representative. The works must be original and unpublished, must not have been awarded or presented in other competitions, and must not be pending resolution in any other call.

The 2027 motto and limits on artificial intelligence

The theme of the poster must be related to the values of the festival and incorporate references to documentary cinema, ethnography, culture, traditions, and the territory of Sobrarbe. Specifically, it must allude to the transversal theme of the 2027 edition: tradition, oral transmission, and intangible heritage, under the motto «No deixez morir a mia voz».

The poster shall legibly include the name of the festival, the mention of the XXIV edition, the dates of the event, the motto, and the official logo, in addition to the event’s website, its social media icons, and a space reserved for between six and eight institutional and sponsorship logos.

The rules dedicate a specific section to the use of artificial intelligence tools. The works must be the result of an essentially human creative process, and AI will only be permitted as auxiliary technical support for tasks such as editing, correction, image optimization, color treatment, or element cleaning. Proposals generated totally or substantially through generative AI systems will not be accepted, and participants must declare during registration whether they have used these tools.

Single prize of 600 euros and verdict before the end of the year

A single prize of 600 euros is established, subject to legally applicable tax withholdings and charged to the corresponding budget allocation of the Comarca de Sobrarbe. Acceptance of the prize implies the exclusive assignment to the comarca of the rights of reproduction, distribution, public communication, and transformation of the work for its use and promotion on any medium linked to the festival.

The winner must deliver the poster in optimal quality for printing, the original editable files, and the adaptations derived from the design for its application across different media:

  • Cover of the program.
  • Information brochures.
  • Website and social networks.
  • Digital signage.
  • Promotional displays.
  • Photocall and other exhibition supports.

The jury’s verdict will be made public before December 31, 2026, and will be final. The contest may be declared void if no proposal meets the sufficient quality.

Submission, jury, and evaluation criteria

Documentation must be sent by email to comarca@sobrarbe.com and shall include the application form, the responsible declaration regarding the use of artificial intelligence, a copy of the DNI, NIE, or equivalent document, and the poster in JPG format, vertical A3 size, and a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. The works shall be submitted under an identifying title or slogan, and the identifying documentation will be kept separate from the proposals to guarantee anonymity during the evaluation.

The jury will be composed of representatives from the Permanent Commission of the Festival, members of the Culture Commission of the Comarca de Sobrarbe, and representatives of collaborating entities, and may seek specialized technical advice. Proposals will be evaluated based on artistic and technical quality, originality and creativity, suitability for the values and theme of the festival, communicative and promotional capacity, and adaptability to different media and dissemination formats.

The call for entries arrives as the festival faces its twenty-fourth edition with its sights set on March 2027. For creators from within and outside the territory, the contest represents a means of projection and a financial incentive, as well as an opportunity to link their work to an established event in the ethnographic documentary scene. The requirement for a human creative process and the mandatory declaration regarding the use of AI further place the call within the current debate on authorship and artistic creation.
