L'indemnité kilométrique des agents fédéraux portée à 0,4452 euro au 1er octobre

The mileage allowance for federal civil service employees is increased to 0.4452 euros per kilometer for the period from October 1 to December 31, 2026. The amount is set by circular no. 771 of September 16, 2026, from the FPS Strategy and Support (BOSA), published in the Belgian Official Gazette on September 29, 2026, under reference C − 2026/006808, page 52294. The circular is addressed to the federal public services and their dependent services, the Ministry of Defence, as well as the public interest bodies of the federal administrative civil service.

The text is based on Article 74 of the Royal Decree of July 13, 2017, fixing the allowances and indemnities of the personnel of the federal civil service, which provides for the periodic adjustment of the scale. The indexation is carried out in application of Article 3bis of the Royal Decree of December 24, 1993, implementing the law of January 6, 1989, on safeguarding the competitiveness of the country, inserted by the law of April 23, 2015, concerning the promotion of employment: the consumer price index referred to in Article 74, § 1, is replaced by the smoothed health index. The circular is signed by the Minister of Public Action and Modernisation, in charge of the Civil Service, V. Matz.

An amount calculated in two parts

The new scale results from a composite formula, detailed in the circular:

  • First part (80%): 80% of the previous mileage allowance, i.e., 0.4440 euros, multiplied by the ratio between the smoothed health index of July/August 2026 (100.855) and that of April/May 2026 (100.4375), which gives 0.35667 euros.
  • Second part (20%): 20% of 0.4440 euros weighted by the average price of 95 RON E10 gasoline and B7 diesel, i.e., 2.053525 in July/August 2026 compared to 2.0488 in April/May 2026, which gives 0.08859 euros.
  • Total amount: 0.35667 euros + 0.08859 euros = 0.4452 euros per kilometer.

Who is affected by the circular

The scope of application is defined by reference to Article 1 of the law of July 22, 1993, concerning certain measures regarding the civil service. The recipients are:

  • the federal public services and their dependent services;
  • the Ministry of Defence;
  • the public interest bodies belonging to the federal administrative civil service.

An increase of 0.0012 euros per kilometer

The scale thus increases from 0.4440 euros to 0.4452 euros per kilometer, representing an increase of 0.0012 euros, or approximately 0.27%. The amount is valid for one quarter only, from October 1 to December 31, 2026, with the circular recalling that the adjustment is recalculated for each period based on the indices and fuel prices of the two reference months.

For federal employees using their personal vehicle for official business, the new rate applies to trips made as of October 1, 2026. The relevant departments must therefore align their settlements with this amount for the final quarter of the year, prior to the next scale revision.
