The ICEC calls for grants for new professional circus shows

The Catalan Institute for Cultural Enterprises (ICEC) has opened the call for grants, under a non-competitive regime, for the production of new professional indoor, street, and big top circus shows for the 2026-2029 period. The call is published via Resolution CLT/2525/2026, of July 14, in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat de Catalunya (DOGC) no. 9739, of August 27, 2026, with reference CVE-DOGC-A-26198052-2026 and ref. BDNS 919791.
The call is framed within the general regulatory bases for ICEC grants under a competitive regime, approved by Resolution CLT/3142/2020, of December 1, and successively modified until Resolution CLT/555/2026, of February 26. The specific bases governing this line were approved by the Agreement of the ICEC Board of Directors on December 17, 2025, published via Resolution CLT/4837/2025, of December 23. The resolution is signed by Josep Maria Carreté Nadal, president of the ICEC Board of Directors.
Funding and annual installments
The maximum funding for the grants is 320,625.45 euros, distributed over four annual installments charged to the ICEC budget:
- 2026: 85,510.81 euros
- 2027: 85,510.81 euros
- 2028: 85,478.74 euros
- 2029: 64,125.09 euros
The funding may be increased based on the applications received, for an amount not exceeding triple the call, subject to budget availability. Additionally, remaining funds from one item may be applied to other items based on the admitted applications.
Deadlines and processing
The period for submitting applications is from September 1 to 17, 2026, both inclusive. The procedures for granting, justification, modification, and revocation must be carried out by electronic means, in accordance with Order CLT/4/2013, of January 2, through the Gencat.cat portal.
The instructing body is the Performing Arts Area of the ICEC. The head of the Institute’s management prepares the provisional and final resolution proposals, and the president of the Board of Directors resolves on the granting or denial, within a maximum period of six months from the publication of the call. Proposals and resolutions are published on the electronic notice board of the Administration of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Appeals and guarantees
Against the resolution, which does not exhaust the administrative route, an appeal for reversal may be filed before the head of the Department of Culture within one month from the publication in the DOGC. After the maximum period of six months without a resolution, applicants may consider their applications rejected due to administrative silence.
This call represents an opportunity for emerging and established circus companies in Catalonia, which will have a multi-year funding framework to premiere new indoor, street, and tent shows. The continuity of the line until 2029 offers predictability to the performing arts sector, one of the most affected by precariousness, and reinforces circus as a professional discipline within the Catalan cultural system.
