General Inspectorate for Education, Sport and Research: fifteen positions open

The Ministry of National Education is opening 15 positions for General Inspectors of education, sport, and research, to be filled via secondment to a Group II position. The vacancy notice is published in the Official Journal of the French Republic (JORF) No. 0206 of September 4, 2026, under NOR PRMG2623002V.

The General Inspectorate of Education, Sport, and Research (IGÉSR) carries out missions of inspection, control, audit, investigation, evaluation, advice, and support, as well as international cooperation missions, in the fields of education, higher education, research, youth, sport, popular education, community life, reading, and public libraries. The proposed positions belong to Group II within the meaning of Articles 10 and 11 of the amended Decree No. 2022-335 of March 9, 2022.

Fifteen specialized profiles

The positions cover a wide spectrum of skills, divided among the IGÉSR colleges (primary education, disciplines and pedagogy, administration, higher education and research, youth and sports, libraries):

• profiles No. 1 to 3: public policies for youth, sport, popular education, and community life;
• profile No. 4: libraries, documentation, and public reading;
• profile No. 5: educational policies and State-local authority relations;
• profile No. 6: vocational training for pupils, students, and apprentices, and financial analysis;
• profile No. 7: legal affairs and control;
• profiles No. 8 to 10: higher education and research (health and biomedical, budgetary and financial, human resources);
• profile No. 11: primary education and its management;
• profiles No. 12 to 15: disciplinary expertise in computer science, mathematics, economics-management, and history-geography.

Candidates must demonstrate proven expertise in the recruitment field, excellent written and oral communication skills, independence, and impartiality. Proficiency in one or more foreign languages, particularly English, is appreciated. The administrative residence is located in Paris, at 1, rue Descartes, 75005 Paris.

Employment conditions and remuneration

Civil servants, senior officers, and magistrates appointed are placed on secondment; persons who do not have civil servant status are recruited by contract. The term of employment is five years, renewable up to a maximum of ten years, with a six-month probationary period.

• Annual gross remuneration (fixed and variable parts) between €75,000 and €120,000;
• Annual indemnity supplement (CIA) paid in a single installment in year N+1;
• Training and integration program for seconded personnel.

Appointment is subject to the prior submission of the declaration of interests provided for in Articles L. 122-2 et seq. of the General Code of the Civil Service, and members shall comply with the IGÉSR code of ethics.

Application Procedure

Applications, addressed to the head of the IGÉSR via the administrative authority to which the candidates report, shall consist of a curriculum vitae (maximum 3 pages), a cover letter (2 pages), and a document presenting a significant professional achievement (2 pages). They must be submitted electronically to recrutement-igesr@igesr.gouv.fr within thirty days from the publication of the notice.

Selection is carried out by a committee of six people, chaired by the head of the IGÉSR service, comprising three inspectors general who are members of the steering committee and two qualified experts. Pre-selected candidates are invited to two 45-minute interviews (professional expertise, followed by background and motivation). At the end of the process, the committee issues an opinion transmitted to the ministers in charge of national education, youth, higher education, research, sports and, where applicable, culture, who propose the appointment to the Prime Minister.
