Public information for a 7,560 MW BESS battery in Bonete

The Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha has submitted for public review the project for the BESS Campanario-Rotonda 1 storage plant, with 7.560 MW, intended to hybridize with the existing photovoltaic plant in the municipality of Bonete (Albacete). The announcement was signed on September 14, 2026, by the Provincial Delegation for Sustainable Development of Albacete and published in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha (DOCM) no. 183, dated September 23, 2026, under reference 2026/6680. The resolution opens a 20-day period for submitting allegations.

The procedure complies with Law 24/2013, of December 26, on the Electricity Sector, and Decree 80/2007, of June 19, which regulates the authorization procedures for electrical energy installations processed by the Regional Government. The public review aims to obtain the prior administrative authorization and the administrative construction authorization for file 02271200003 (BAT).

The promoter is Renovables Rotonda 1SPV, S.L.U., with CIF B01795319, and the execution project was signed on March 21, 2026, by the competent qualified technician Juan Useros de La Calzada. The installation is located on plot 42 of polygon 11 in the municipality of Bonete.

A battery module within the photovoltaic fencing

The battery energy storage system (BESS) is located inside the fenced area of the photovoltaic generation module FV Campanario Rotonda 1 (reference 02250401953 (FV) / DGTE: 2703/01142_M1), next to the disconnecting center of the existing photovoltaic plant. The access capacity of the hybrid FV+BESS installation is 17.5 MW.

The stated purpose is to incorporate a new storage module in hybridization with the existing photovoltaic generation module, with its transformation and final evacuation to the 400 kV transmission grid.

Three containers, 7.560 MW and 15.045 MWh

The basic technical characteristics of the storage module are as follows:

Grouping of three shipping container units.
Each container houses lithium-ion batteries with 2,520 kW inverters and a capacity of 5,015 kWh.
Total installed power of the storage module: 7.560 MW.
Total capacity: 15.045 MWh.
Material execution budget: 1,700,583.14 euros.

New 30 kV evacuation infrastructures

Alongside the battery containers, two surface transformation and external switching centers are installed, housed in shipping containers:

CT1: 2,750 kVA power transformer (0.690/30 kV), connected to a battery container.
CT2: 5,140 kVA power transformer (0.690/30 kV), connected to two battery containers.
30 kV S/C underground line, RHZ1 18/30 kV 3x240 mm² Al type conductor, with a total approximate length of 10 m.
New CSFV+BESS sectioning center, in a prefabricated concrete building, with 36 kV cells and a 250 kVA auxiliary services transformer.

The existing high-voltage evacuation starts from the new CSFV+BESS via a 30 kV underground line with a cumulative length of 110 m (AL HEPRZ1 18/30 kV conductor, 400 mm² section) to the Almansol 30/132 kV transformer substation (reference 02240108014_A1 / DGTE: 2703/00918_A1). From there, the 132 kV power line starts, ending at the Campanario Renovables 132/400 kV substation (reference 02210103693 / DGTE: 2703/0918).

File consultation and appeals period

The project may be examined at the Industry and Energy Service, located at Avenida de España nº 8-B, 02071 Albacete, or on the electronic notice board of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha. Any appeals deemed appropriate may be submitted within 20 days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement, signed in Albacete on September 14, 2026, by the provincial delegate, María Llanos Valero Hernández.

The installation expands the capacity of a photovoltaic plant already in service in Bonete and adds storage capacity to the grid, a key element for the management of renewable production. The file directly affects the municipal district and the energy sector, which now have 20 days to file appeals regarding the project and its evacuation infrastructures.
