Huesca announces the national contest for the best butter palmier

The Huesca City Council, through its Department of Festivals, Tourism, Commerce, and Hospitality, has announced the II Contest for the Best Butter Palmera in Spain, a national pastry competition with prizes of 1,500 euros per category. The call for entries was approved by Decree 4955/2026, of August 26, 2026, and its summary was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Huesca, number 164, on Friday, August 28, 2026.
The contest, held for the second time, seeks to reward the best butter palmera in the country in two modalities and consolidate the capital of Huesca as a showcase for the pastry sector. The full text of the call can be consulted in the National Grants Database with the identifier 926658.
Participants and requirements
All pastry shops, bakeries, and related establishments with an on-site workshop for their own production and preparation located in Spain may apply, provided they have a point of sale or collection within national territory. Participants must meet a series of conditions:
- Be associated with a pastry sector guild in Spain.
- Not be subject to the disqualification circumstances of Article 13 of the General Grants Law 38/2003, of November 17.
- Be up to date with their obligations to the State Tax Administration Agency and the General Treasury of the Social Security, as well as in the repayment of grants.
Categories and prizes
The competition grants the award for the best butter palmera in Spain in two categories: best butter palmera and best chocolate butter palmera. Each is endowed with a prize of 1,500 euros, chargeable to the budget item 06 43102 48000 “Commerce Promotion. Other transfers”, in addition to an accrediting award that the winner may display in their establishment and communications.
Rules and submission deadline
The call is governed by the regulatory bases for the granting of subsidies by the Huesca City Council and its dependent entities, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Huesca, number 69, of April 13, 2016. Applications for participation may be submitted from the day following the publication of the summary in the BOP of Huesca until 2:00 PM on October 9, 2026. The application form and other standardized models will be available on the Huesca City Council website (https://www.huesca.es). The decree is signed by the mayor, Lorena Ordena Pons.
The second edition of this competition reinforces the Huesca city council’s commitment to promoting local commerce and positioning Huesca on the national pastry map, offering bakeries from all over Spain a visibility platform and a direct economic incentive for excellence in the creation of one of the country’s most popular sweets.
