Granada opens 220,000 euros in relocation grants due to earthquakes
Por FactBox Admin

The Granada City Council has opened a call for emergency housing grants for the temporary relocation of people evicted due to the seismic swarm of August 2026, with a budget of 220,000 euros. The measure was approved by the mayor’s agreement on October 8, 2026 (Agreement No. 2026005688) and is published in full in the Official Gazette of the Province of Granada No. 200, dated October 15, 2026, with a deadline for applications until December 11, 2026.
The call, processed under administrative file 2026/29901Q by the Department of Social Policy, Family, Disability, and the Elderly, is financed by the nominative grant awarded by the Most Excellent Provincial Council of Granada. This contribution was granted by Agreement No. 242 of the Governing Board of the Provincial Council, adopted in an extraordinary session on September 9, 2026, in favor of the municipalities of Armilla, Granada, and Las Gabias to address the needs arising from the seismic movements.
The text is issued under the General Ordinance regulating the granting of subsidies of the Granada City Council (BOP No. 83, of May 4, 2021), Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies, and its Regulation approved by Royal Decree 887/2006, of July 21. This is an open call for non-competitive bids, charged to budget application 0711 23101 48109 and credit retention 220260019636.
Two lines of action
The Provincial Council grant is divided into two lines: Line 1, for urgent works to return home, intended to finance emergency actions that guarantee the safety of the properties and allow the return of those evicted; and Line 2, for relocation support, which covers the temporary accommodation costs of families who cannot return to their homes.
The funds are intended for owners and tenants with legal title of possession whose homes suffer damage so severe that it implies their eviction until final repair. The call is approved as a rectification of the material error noted in the Mayor’s Resolution of October 6, 2026, and the decree will be submitted for ratification by the Local Governing Board in its first session.
Amounts and modalities of aid
- Temporary rental assistance in the free market: 48 dwellings, with a maximum cost of 700 euros per month for 5 months and up to 3,500 euros per interested person.
- Emergency hotel accommodation: 1 family or cohabitation unit, with a maximum of 180 euros per day (average of 80 euros per double room for 2-3 people including breakfast), for a maximum of 7 days and up to 1,120 euros.
- Contractual deposit: 48 files, limited to 700 euros as a single payment.
- Connection of basic utilities (water, electricity, and gas): 48 files, 75 euros as a single payment.
Payment is advanced monthly to the beneficiary and can be made by bank transfer or nominative check. The eligible period covers expenses incurred between January 1 and December 31, 2026.
Requirements and incompatibilities
- Be the owner or legitimate occupant (tenant with a valid contract) with habitual and permanent residence in the evicted property as of the date of the earthquake.
- Not own another usable dwelling within the municipality of Granada or its metropolitan area.
- In previous leases, the aid only covers the additional cost between the old and new rent.
- The new temporary contract must include the recovery of the habitability of the original home as a cause for termination.
- Subsidiarity regarding private insurance: municipal aid is only granted once the inhabitability coverage of the policy has been exhausted.
- Possess a justifying report from the Local Police, Fire Department, or the Urban Planning Delegation ordering the evacuation or declaring inhabitability.
- The report from the Urban Planning Area must determine that the repair period is neither immediate nor imminent.
The call is incompatible with compensation from private insurers, including the Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros, and with aid from other public administrations for the same purpose.
Deadlines and processing
Applications are submitted using Model 1, under the procedure code AYU-SEISMO-2026, at the Electronic Registry of the Granada City Council, at registration assistance offices, Post Offices, or any other place provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015. The period runs from the day following the publication of the agreement until December 11, 2026.
The maximum period to resolve and notify is 15 days from the submission to the competent registry, with administrative silence being dismissive in nature. The total justification of the rental aid must be completed by March 5, 2027. An optional appeal for reversal may be filed against the act within one month.
The call for applications reaches households that remain displaced more than a month after the seismic swarm, with a limit of 48 dwellings and an allocation that will be exhausted in order of application. For the affected families, the December 11 deadline marks the final opportunity to access aid covering rent, emergency accommodation, security deposits, and utilities while their properties are being repaired.
