Girona opens 100,000 euro grants for elderly programs

The Girona City Council has opened the call for grants to support programs and activities aimed at the city’s elderly population during the year 2026, with a maximum allocation of 100,000 euros. The resolution, signed on August 21, 2026, is published as an extract in the Official Gazette of the Province of Girona (BOP no. 164, of August 26, 2026, edict 7564, CVE BOP-2026_0_164_7564).

The call is processed under a competitive bidding regime and is financed from the budget item 2026 510 23100 48001 (Grants for Elderly Centers). The full text can be consulted in the National Grants Database with the BDNS code 925899.

Two modalities of aid

The call distinguishes between two types of recipients and amounts, depending on the origin and nature of the activity:

Modality I — Aid for programs and activities of municipal centers, for pensioners and retirees associations and/or entities related to the elderly who collaborate in the management of municipal centers in different neighborhoods. The amount covers 90% of the project budget, with a maximum of 10,000 euros.
Modality II — Aid for other programs and activities for the elderly organized by pensioners and retirees associations and/or non-profit entities in the city’s neighborhoods. The amount is a maximum of 50% of the budget, with a limit of 5,000 euros.

The procedure is framed within Title II of the General Grants Ordinance of the Girona City Council, approved by Plenary agreement on December 9, 2025, and complies with Law 38/2003, of November 17, the general law on grants.

Requirements and documentation

Legally constituted entities and associations that effectively develop activities aimed at the elderly in the neighborhoods of Girona may apply. Among the required requirements are:

Having statutory objectives related to the purpose of the aid.
Having justified any previous grant from the City Council in a timely and proper manner.
Being up to date with tax obligations to the City Council, other administrations, and Social Security.
Not being in any of the situations provided for in Article 13 of the General Grants Law.
Submitting a single project per call.

The application must be accompanied by the standardized application form, the project or activity report (including a presentation of the entity, description, degree of collective participation, action plan, and detailed budget), and the responsible declarations of being up to date with payments and compliance with Law 38/2003. In Modality II, the degree of social interest, good practices in inclusion and accessibility, community impact, and whether other aid has been requested must also be indicated.

Deadlines and justification

Applications must be submitted within a period of fifteen business days starting from the day after the publication of the call in the BOP. All applications submitted within the deadline will be examined jointly and resolved in a single administrative act.

Beneficiary entities must justify the activity through a simplified justification account, including an action report, a classified list of expenses, and a detail of other income. The maximum justification period is three months, with no possibility of extension, and covers the period from January 1 to March 31, 2027, for activities carried out during 2026. Once the deadline has passed, the documentation will be requested within a non-extendable period of fifteen business days, subject to the penalties provided for in the regulatory bases.

The call, signed by the Councilor for “Ciutat que cuida” (Caring City), Gemma Martínez Villagrasa, reinforces municipal support for social entities and elderly groups, one of the axes of the City Council’s social action. For neighborhood pensioners and retirees’ associations, these grants are a key way to maintain and expand the offer of activities aimed at an increasingly numerous group in the city.
