The General Directorate of Cultural and Documentary Heritage of the Regional Government of Extremadura (Junta de Extremadura) has resolved the granting of aid under Line 3 intended for municipalities and smaller local entities to act upon real estate assets of Extremaduran historical and cultural heritage, for a total amount of 81,699.91 euros. The decision, dated October 20, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura (DOE) number 212, of November 4, 2026, with the official reference 2026062748, within section III.
Nine city councils and a ten-thousand-euro ceiling
The resolution grants aid to nine projects submitted by city councils in the region. The maximum amount per action is set at 10,000 euros, a threshold reached by five of the nine beneficiary entities. The approved distribution is as follows:
- City Council of Burguillos del Cerro: research, tourism, and culture center in the Church of San Juan, 9,271.50 euros (82.50 points).
- City Council of Feria: Feria Castle, 5,418.18 euros (82.50 points).
- City Council of Fregenal de la Sierra: Jesuit College, 9,010.23 euros (77.50 points).
- City Council of Abadía: Bienparada Convent, 10,000.00 euros (72.50 points).
- City Council of Portezuelo: Marmoinda Castle, 10,000.00 euros (62.50 points).
- City Council of Valencia del Ventoso: Casa-Fuerte Castle, 8,000.00 euros (62.50 points).
- City Council of Villafranca de los Barros: House of Culture, 10,000.00 euros (52.50 points).
- City Council of La Garganta: Wolf Museum, 10,000.00 euros (47.50 points).
- City Council of Baños de Montemayor: Santa Catalina auditorium, 10,000.00 euros (42.83 points).
The projects include castles, convents, churches, cultural facilities, and local museums, linking the aid line both to the conservation of protected buildings and to the maintenance of activity in small municipalities.
Four inadmissible requests and sufficient credit
The official text states that in this Line 3, there are no requests that, while meeting the administrative and technical requirements, remained unattended due to lack of credit: the available allocation proved sufficient for all valid requests. Instead, four requests are deemed inadmissible:
- City Council of Brozas, as it is not a subsidizable action according to article 5 of the call for applications.
- City Council of Cabeza la Vaca, for the same reason.
- City Council of Torre de Miguel Sesmero, for failing to meet the requirement of article 4.3.1c) of the call.
- City Council of Valverde de la Vera, as it is also not a subsidizable action according to article 5.
Regulatory framework, advance payment, and expenditure control
The grants are based on Decree 152/2025, of November 11, which establishes the regulatory bases, and the Resolution of April 7, 2026, which calls for the subsidies for the 2026 financial year. The assessment is carried out by the Assessment Commission, with minutes dated August 4 and 6, 2026, and the proposal for granting is formulated by the Head of the Cultural Heritage, Provincial Archives and Museums Service on October 6, 2026. The credit comes from budget application 150030000/272A/46000, expenditure project 20250179 “Grants for the protection of historical and cultural heritage.”
Payment is made in a single advance payment of 100% of the subsidy once the resolution is published and accepted by the beneficiary entity, subject to accreditation of being up to date with State Treasury, Social Security, and Regional Treasury. The execution period for Line 3 begins on January 1, 2026, and concludes twelve months after the day following the publication of the grant, and the final justification must be submitted within three months following the close of execution. Deviations from the initial budget may not exceed 20%, and a certificate from the local Secretariat regarding the opening hours of the property is required.
Appeals and publicity
Against the resolution, which does not exhaust the administrative route, an appeal for reversal may be filed before the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports within one month from the day following its publication in the DOE. The resolution will also be disseminated on the Grants Portal, the Electronic Transparency Portal, and the National Grants Database. The signature corresponds to the Secretary General of Culture, José Luis Gil Soto, due to the abstention of the director general, with the approval of the General Secretariat by resolution of October 15, 2026.
The impact of this line is twofold: for the beneficiary city councils, it provides immediate liquidity to undertake works on properties often threatened by lack of maintenance, and for the local restoration and construction sector, it represents a workload in small municipalities, where heritage conservation is also a tourist and identity asset.
