Energía sets new weightings for domestic kerosene prices
Por FactBox Admin

The Ministry of Energy established new weightings for the linear combination of prices that determines the intermediate reference price for domestic kerosene, through exempt decree No. 233, published in the Official Gazette No. 44,560 on Monday, September 28, 2026 (CVE 2878770). The regulation assigns 60% to the historical price, 5% to the short-term price, and 35% to the long-term price. The weightings are effective from the publication of the decree in the Official Gazette.
The decree was issued in Santiago on September 24, 2026, and bears the signatures of the Minister of Energy, Ximena Rincón González, and the Minister of Finance, Jorge Antonio Quiroz Castro, acting “by order of the President of the Republic.” The transcription corresponds to Andrea Verónica Soto Araya, head of the Legal Division of the Undersecretariat of Energy.
The measure is based on Article 6 of supreme decree No. 211, of 2000, from the Ministry of Mining, which approves the regulation of Law No. 19,030, which creates the Oil Price Stabilization Fund. That article establishes that the intermediate reference price of each product is determined as a linear combination of the historical price, the short-term price, and the long-term price, and that the weightings are set by supreme decree signed by the ministers of Mining —now Energy— and Finance, following a report from the National Energy Commission.
The new weightings
- Historical price: 60%.
- Short-term price: 5%.
- Long-term price: 35%.
The change was proposed by the National Energy Commission through ordinary letter No. 910/2026, dated September 23, 2026, which attached a technical report with the proposal for the change in weightings. The decree also invokes decree law No. 2,224, of 1978, amended by Law No. 20,402; supreme decree No. 19, of 2001, from the Ministry General Secretariat of the Presidency; and resolution No. 36, of 2024, from the Comptroller General of the Republic.
Immediate effectiveness
Paragraph 2 of the decree provides that the weightings of the cited prices are effective from the publication of the administrative act in the Official Gazette, that is, from Monday, September 28, 2026. The text does not provide for a transition period or any transitory regime.
Current prices
The Ministry of Energy publishes the reference and parity prices for domestic kerosene weekly. The most recent ones, set by exempt decree No. 230 (CVE 2876888), dated September 23, 2026, are:
- Lower reference price: 884.00 dollars per cubic meter.
- Intermediate reference price: 1,010.30 dollars per cubic meter.
- Upper reference price: 1,136.60 dollars per cubic meter.
- Parity price: 1,386.38 dollars per cubic meter.
Those values came into effect on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The previous week, exempt decree No. 227 (CVE 2873681) had set a parity price of 1,300.07 dollars per cubic meter, while exempt decree No. 222 (CVE 2869592) established 1,245.90 dollars per cubic meter.
Domestic kerosene is the heating fuel for homes, meaning that the relative weight assigned to each component affects the parity price published every week and, through that channel, the cost faced by consumers. Under the new scheme, the historical component holds the greatest influence (60%) and the short-term component is reduced to a marginal role (5%), which cushions the transfer of recent market variations to the fuel price.
