The SES clarifies the custody of wild boar trophies

The Extremadura Health Service (SES) has modified Annex VI of Decree 159/2025, of November 25, which regulates the sanitary control of wild game pieces in the Autonomous Community of Extremadura. The resolution, signed on August 20, 2026, by the General Management, is published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura number 166, of August 27, 2026, with reference 2026062193.
The modification entirely replaces Annex VI, dedicated to the transport document for hunting trophies, and clarifies the responsibility for the custody of wild boar trophies. The change responds to the experience accumulated in the application of the regulation and seeks to guarantee legal certainty and a homogeneous application by the operators involved and the competent authorities.
A technical adjustment of Annex VI
Decree 159/2025 was published on December 1, 2025, in the DOE number 231 and establishes the sanitary conditions applicable to wild hunting to protect public health and manage associated risks. Its first final provision expressly empowers the head of the General Management of the SES to make specific modifications to the annexes of the regulation.
The resolution is strictly technical in nature and is limited to updating the content of Annex VI, without altering the substantive legal regime or introducing new obligations. It is issued in accordance with the principles of good regulation under Article 129 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure.
New wording on custody
The “Destination” section of Annex VI has been modified to ensure consistency with the second additional provision of Decree 159/2025. The new wording establishes that, in the case of wild boar trophies, the recipient shall be responsible for their custody, replacing the previous text that linked this responsibility to the communication of the trichinella analysis result by the Official Veterinary Service.
The transport document now includes the essential data of the hunting activity:
- Type of trophy (tusks and canines, head, antlers or horns) and species.
- Quantity, number of seals, and carcass seal number.
- Destination of the trophy, including the recipient’s address, town, and telephone number.
- Taxidermy data, including registration number, where applicable.
- License plate of the transport vehicle.
Validity and appeals
The resolution takes effect from the day following its publication in the Official Gazette of Extremadura. Against it, which exhausts administrative remedies, a motion for reconsideration may be filed with the General Management within one month, or a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed before the competent jurisdiction within two months, in accordance with Law 29/1998, of July 13.
The resolution appears signed by delegation by GEMMA MONTERO MILANÉS, Director General of Hospital Care, Humanization and Demand Planning, by virtue of the resolution of June 5, 2026 (DOE no. 108, of June 8, 2026).
The clarification is of direct interest to hunters, taxidermists, and official veterinarians, as it clearly establishes who is responsible for the custody of wild boar trophies from the moment of transfer, a key point for sanitary control and the traceability of game pieces in Extremadura.
