The Canary Islands Health Service assigns three stabilized pulmonologists

The Canary Islands Health Service has appointed permanent statutory staff to three vacant basic positions in the category of FEA-Pulmonology, Health Group A/A1, within the framework of the exceptional selection process for the stabilization of temporary employment (competitive examination). This is established by the Resolution of August 19, 2026, signed by the Director of the Canary Islands Health Service, Adasat Goya González, and published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands no. 175, on September 1, 2026.

The appointments definitively consolidate professionals who were providing services on a temporary basis in a care area with a deficit of specialists, and are part of the execution of the extraordinary public employment offers for stabilization provided for in Law 20/2021, of December 28.

A long-term stabilization process

The call for the extraordinary selection processes for the stabilization of temporary employment was published in the BOC no. 255, of December 29, 2022, by resolution of the General Directorate of Human Resources. Following the approval of the final list of admitted and excluded candidates (Resolution no. 4360/2023) and the merit competition phase, the Coordinating Tribunal submitted the final results on May 15, 2026.

The list of offered positions was approved by Resolution no. 3637/2026, of June 19, and the appointment proposal was submitted via Resolution no. 4305/2026, of July 29. The present act closes the process with the definitive appointment of the selected candidates.

Three positions awarded in two hospitals

The positions are distributed between the Dr. Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria and the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital, under the specialized care regime:

• Guillermo José Pérez Mendoza — FEA Pulmonology, Dr. Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria.
• Marta Cuyas Cortadellas — FEA Pulmonology, Dr. Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria.
• Betsye Cornejo Brito — FEA Pulmonology, Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital.

Assumption of office and conditions

The appointed persons will have a non-extendable period of 15 calendar days from the day following the publication of the resolution to take office before the Management Directorates of the corresponding hospitals. They must identify themselves with a DNI, NIE, or passport, and those not listed in the SIRHUS system must provide a certified copy.

Personnel who gain access as permanent statutory staff through this route may not obtain a commission of service outside the Canary Islands Health Service for two years from the date of taking office, except in cases of gender-based violence or terrorism. Failure to take office within the deadline implies the loss of rights derived from the process, and unfilled positions may be assigned in a second allocation according to the order of precedence.

The resolution consolidates the healthcare staff in a specialty with a shortage of professionals, guarantees the job stability of the physicians, and reinforces the care capacity of the two major reference hospitals in the Canary Islands, to the direct benefit of patients requiring pneumological care.
