The Canary Islands Health Service assigns 40 nursing assistants

The Canarian Health Service has appointed 40 nursing assistants as permanent statutory staff in vacant basic positions in the category of Nursing Assistant, Health Group C/C2, as part of the second allocation of the exceptional selection process for the stabilization of long-term temporary employment. The decision was adopted via the Resolution of August 24, 2026, signed by the Director of the organization, Adasat Goya González, and published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands number 177, dated September 3, 2026.

The new holders will have a non-extendable period of 15 calendar days from the day following the publication to take possession of the allocated position before the corresponding health management.

A stabilization process underway

The appointment is part of the exceptional selection process for the stabilization of long-term temporary employment, convened by the General Directorate of Human Resources of the Canarian Health Service via resolution of December 23, 2022, published in BOC number 255. The call is executed within the framework of the extraordinary public employment offers provided for in Law 20/2021, of December 28.

This second allocation covers positions that became vacant following the resignations and cessations of awardees who did not take possession in the first appointment resolution, published in BOC number 134, of July 6, 2026. The managements of the health centers declared those positions vacant and sent the result to the General Directorate of Human Resources for a final allocation by strict order of precedence.

Destinations distributed across all islands

The 40 allocated positions are distributed among hospitals and primary care areas of several islands, in both specialized care and primary care:

• University Hospital of the Canary Islands (Tenerife)
• Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital (Tenerife)
• “Dr. Negrín” University Hospital of Gran Canaria
• Materno-Insular University Hospital (Gran Canaria)
• Specialized Care of La Gomera
• Specialized Care of Fuerteventura
• Specialized Care of Lanzarote
• Zone IV of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Vecindario Health Zone (primary care)

Requirements for taking office

Appointed persons must identify themselves with a DNI, NIE or passport and prove the requirements demanded in the call. Those already serving in the center will not have to provide documentation that is already on their file. Those who are in a situation of temporary disability may defer their incorporation until medical discharge, following notification to the destination management.

Failure to take office within the deadline implies the loss of all rights derived from participation in the process, except for alleged and justified causes. Personnel who enter as permanent staff may not obtain a service commission outside the Canary Islands Health Service for two years from taking office, except for causes of gender-based violence or terrorism.

A step toward reducing temporary employment

With this second allocation, the Canary Islands Health Service advances in the reduction of temporary employment in the category of nursing assistant, one of the most affected by interim status in the archipelago. The incorporation of these 40 professionals as permanent statutory staff consolidates workforces in hospitals and health centers across all islands and provides job stability to thousands of healthcare workers who had been in a temporary situation for years.
