The Canary Islands Health Service consolidates hundreds of administrative assistants

Por FactBox Admin

The Canary Islands Health Service has appointed as permanent statutory staff the candidates who passed the exceptional selection process for the stabilization of long-term temporary employment in the category of Administrative Auxiliary Group of the Administrative Function, Group C/C2 Management and Services. The decision, adopted by Resolution of July 7, 2026, by the Director of the Canary Islands Health Service, is published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (Boletín Oficial de Canarias) no. 169, of August 24, 2026, pages 32944 et seq.

The appointment affects hundreds of healthcare workers distributed across all the islands, who move from a temporary or provisional situation to the status of permanent statutory staff in vacant basic positions within the health centers and institutions of the archipelago.

A long-term stabilization process

The call dates back to the Resolution of December 23, 2022, from the General Directorate of Human Resources, published in BOC no. 255, which approved the bases for the extraordinary selection processes for the stabilization of temporary employment and the ordinary processes for access to the status of permanent statutory staff. The process is part of the execution of the extraordinary public employment offers provided for in Law 20/2021, of December 28.

Following the approval of the final list of admitted and excluded candidates (Resolution no. 5/2025), the request for merits, and the publication of the final results of the competition phase, Resolution no. 2663/2026 submitted the appointment proposal. Once the submitted resignations were resolved, the Directorate of the Canary Islands Health Service has now formalized the final appointment.

Taking office within fifteen days

The appointed individuals will have a non-extendable period of 15 calendar days from the day following the publication of the resolution to take possession of the assigned position. The incorporation will take place before the corresponding managements, including:

  • “Dr. Negrín” Gran Canaria University Hospital
  • Insular-Materno Infantil University Hospital Complex
  • Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital
  • Canary Islands University Hospital Complex
  • Primary Care Managements of Gran Canaria and Tenerife
  • Health Services Managements of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro

Those who do not take office within the deadline will lose the rights derived from their participation, unless a cause is alleged and justified. Unfilled positions will be declared vacant for a possible second allocation based on the order of precedence.

Conditions of the new permanent staff

Personnel who gain access as permanent statutory staff through these stabilization processes may not obtain a service commission outside the Canarian Health Service for two years from the date of taking office, except in cases of gender-based violence or terrorism. Those who already hold a permanent position in another category may opt for a leave of absence for the provision of services in the public sector, and the termination of displaced interim personnel shall be governed by the Order of March 30, 2017, of the Ministry of Health.

The resolution, signed by the Director of the Canarian Health Service, Adasat Goya González, consolidates the administrative staff of the Canarian public health system and reduces temporary employment in one of the most numerous management and services groups in the archipelago.
