Butane rises 4.4% in Ceuta: the cylinder will cost 17.56 euros

The maximum retail price of bottled commercial butane in Ceuta will increase by 4.4% starting at 00:00 hours on September 15, 2026, meaning the 12.5-kilogram cylinder will rise from 16.83 to 17.56 euros. This is established by Decree 9.426/2026, of September 15, issued by the counselor of Finance, Economic Transition and Digital Transformation and president of the Autonomous Body of Tax Services of Ceuta, Kissy Chandiramani Ramesh. The measure is published in the Official Gazette of the City of Ceuta (BOCCE) No. 6,653, of September 18, 2026, as provision 649.

The new maximum retail price is set at 140.557 c€/Kg for supplies of commercial butane bottled in containers with a capacity equal to or greater than 8 kilograms and less than 20 kilograms, excluding mixture containers for the use of LPG as fuels. The resolution is based on the Resolution of September 8, 2026, of the General Directorate of Energy Policy and Mines, published in the BOE No. 227, of September 14, 2026, which set the maximum pre-tax price at 123.4447 c€/Kg.

An increase of 0.74 euros per cylinder

The file, identified as 59.3032026 with a start date of September 14, 2026, quantifies the effect on the product with the highest domestic consumption. The official comparison is as follows:

• 12.5-kilogram butane cylinder from 00:00 hours on July 21, 2026: 16.83 euros.
• 12.5-kilogram butane cylinder as of 00:00 hours on September 15, 2026: 17.56 euros.
• Absolute variation: 0.74 euros.
• Percentage variation: 4.40%.

The resulting maximum price consists of two items: the 123.4447 c€/Kg set by the state resolution and an upward variation in marketing costs of 17.1125 c€/Kg, which results in the 140.557 c€/Kg applied in the city.

The fiscal singularity of Ceuta

Order IET/389/2015, of March 5, which updates the system for the automatic determination of maximum retail prices for bottled LPG, enables the competent authorities of the Canary Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla in its article 4.4 to establish variations in marketing costs, up to the limit of the difference between the taxes passed on to the consumer in each territory and those applicable in the rest of Spain.

In exercise of this power, Decree 015813, of December 18, 2013, published in the BOCCE No. 5,325, of December 27, 2013, set the upward variation at 0.171125 euros per kilo of product. This figure is what is now being applied in full once again.

The reason is Decree 117/2026, of January 9, 2026, published in BOCCE No. 6,583, of January 16, 2026, by which the counselor revised the consumption compensation for bottled LPG: it was reduced from the 0.08 euros per kilo in effect in 2025 to 0.00 euros per kilo, effective from the first 2026 resolution of the General Directorate of Energy Policy and Mines that published the new maximum prices. Since the compensation is now zero, the upward variation recovers its original quantitative terms.

Affects households and businesses

The scope of the regulation covers all commercial butane cylinders between 8 and 20 kilos with a tare weight exceeding 9 kilos, the standard format for domestic and hospitality use. The increase applies to supplies made from September 15, and is therefore already in effect at points of sale in the city.

Against the decree, which exhausts the administrative route, a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed before the Court of First Instance of the Contentious-Administrative Section of Ceuta within two months of its publication, or an optional appeal for reversal before the Ministry of Finance, Economic Transition, and Digital Transformation within one month.

The revision comes in a context of pressure on the energy expenditure of Ceuta families and small businesses, for whom the gas cylinder remains a basic energy source. The increase of 0.74 euros per cylinder is added to the removal of the consumption compensation applied until now, so the price returns to the marketing scheme prior to that bonus.
