Culture announces the Generalitat Letters Prize for the 2026 fiscal year
Por FactBox Admin

The Department of Education, Culture and Universities has announced the Generalitat Letters Prize for the 2026 fiscal year, an honorary award intended to distinguish Valencian authors. The call is formalized through the Resolution of September 17, 2026, signed by the Director General of Culture, Ignacio Prieto Mansanet, by delegation of the regional minister. The text is published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) no. 10454, of September 18, 2026, within section III of administrative acts, with the official reference DOGV-C-2026-29542.
The prize was created by Decree 32/1986, of March 10, of the Consell, in order to distinguish and reward Valencian authors who have dedicated their works, preferably, to literary creation and the dissemination of culture. The regulatory bases governing the call are those approved by that same regulation, published in DOGV 366 of April 21, 1986.
The call is supported by a regulatory framework that has been revised on several occasions and has reinforced the symbolic profile of the award, decoupling it from any economic remuneration.
An honorary award without financial endowment
Decree 107/2012, of June 29 (DOGV 6808, of July 2, 2012), modified Decree 32/1986 and suppressed the fourth and eighth bases of its annex. With this suppression, the honorary nature of the prize was emphasized and it was decoupled from any remuneration.
The purpose of the resolution is, therefore, to call for the granting of the Generalitat Letters Prize for 2026 in accordance with those bases, without the text detailing any financial endowment or an open candidacy procedure.
Competence delegated to the Directorate General of Culture
The faculty to issue the application and development provisions of the prize corresponds to the head of the department competent in the matter, according to the first final provision of Decree 247/1991, of December 23, of the Consell, and in accordance with article 28 of Law 5/1983, of December 30, of the Consell.
This exercise of competence is delegated to the head of the Directorate General of Culture, by virtue of the sixth paragraph of the Resolution of January 30, 2025, of the then-named Department of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment, regarding the delegation of competencies in certain bodies (DOGV 10037, of January 31, 2025). Hence, the resolution appears signed by the Director General of Culture and not by the regional minister.
Data protection and appeals
The resolution includes a specific section on the processing of personal data:
- The Department of Education, Culture and Universities is the data controller for the data collected for the purpose of the call.
- The data will be processed for the management and development of the award.
- Interested parties may exercise their rights of access, rectification, opposition, erasure, restriction of processing, and the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, via the link http://www.gva.es/proc19970.
The resolution shall take effect from the day following its publication in the DOGV. Against it, which exhausts administrative remedies, the following may be filed:
- An optional appeal for reversal (recurso potestativo de reposición) before the head of the Department of Education, Culture and Universities, within one month from the day following publication.
- A contentious-administrative appeal before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the High Court of Justice of the Comunitat Valenciana, within two months from the day following publication.
Both avenues comply with articles 112, 123, and 124 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, and articles 10, 14, and 46 of Law 29/1998, of July 13.
The call reaches the Valencian literary and publishing sector with a consolidated format: a prestigious recognition, without a cash prize, which serves each year to project the trajectory of authors linked to literary creation and the dissemination of culture in the Comunitat Valenciana. For publishers, bookstores, and book agents, the announcement marks the start of the annual cycle of an award that functions as an institutional reference for the sector.
