Covelo subsidizes children's books with up to 125 euros per student
Por FactBox Admin

The Covelo City Council has opened the call for municipal grants for the acquisition of books and school materials for the 2026/2027 academic year, aimed at families of early childhood education students (second stage) enrolled in public teaching centers in the municipality. The guidelines were approved by agreement on October 8, 2026, by the Local Government Board, and the extract was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra (BOPPO) number 201, on October 19, 2026, with the official reference 2026073433. The maximum amount is 100 euros per student, which may reach 125 euros in cases of recognized disability or large families.
The call is processed through competitive bidding and has a social compensatory nature, with the declared objective of alleviating the expenses associated with the schooling of children. The extract is published under articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Subsidies Law, and the full text of the guidelines is available in the National Grants Database (BDNS) with the identifier 935312. The regulatory guidelines will also be published on the City Council’s website and on the notice board. The document was signed in Covelo on October 14, 2026, by the mayor-president, Juan Pablo Castillo Amigo, and carries the secure verification code AF0DHXVOZWT30BJC.
Maximum per capita income of 14,400 euros
Natural persons—father, mother, guardian—of one or more children, as well as foster families, may apply for the grant, provided they meet a set of requirements:
- Be the father, mother, legal guardian, or foster family of a student enrolled in early childhood education (second stage) in a public center in Covelo for the 2026/2027 academic year.
- Coexist with the student for whom the grant is requested.
- Have a family per capita income equal to or less than 14,400.00 euros.
- Be up to date with tax and non-tax obligations with the local treasury, providing a report or certificate from the ORAL.
- Be up to date with Social Security, the State Tax Administration Agency, and the Tax Agency of Galicia (ATRIGA).
- Have no pending justification for any grant awarded by the City Council in the previous financial year.
- Not fall under the circumstances of article 10 of Law 9/2007, of June 13, on grants in Galicia.
Per capita income is calculated by dividing the household income by the number of computable persons. These include mothers and fathers, legal guardians, single daughters and sons under 25 years of age, and adult daughters and sons with disabilities who live in the family home. In the event of divorce or legal separation, anyone who does not live with the student is not considered a computable member, except in cases of joint custody, and the new partner or spouse is counted. Persons with a disability equal to or greater than 33%, or those who prove a permanent disability pension in the degrees of total, absolute, or severe disability, count as two. The family income results from the sum of the general taxable base and the savings taxable base, taking into account the family and personal situation as of December 31, 2025, and the income of 2025.
Amount and allocation of credit
The maximum amount of the aid is 100.00 euros per student. In the case of students with a recognized disability of a degree equal to or greater than 33%, the aid may reach 125.00 euros, and the same limit applies to large families. If the accepted applications exceed the forecasts and the credit allocated to the subsidy is exceeded, the total planned credit will be prorated among the admitted applications, such that no family is guaranteed the full amount if the demand exceeds the allocation.
Fifteen business days to submit the application
The deadline for submitting applications, and where applicable the justification, is fifteen business days counting from the day following the official publication of the extract in the BOPPO, that is, from October 20, 2026. The full guidelines can be consulted in the BDNS via the address indicated in the extract, with the identifier 935312.
The call reaches families when the school year is already underway and covers a stage, early childhood education, in which school materials are not free. For a small municipality like Covelo, with only one public reference center, the income limit of 14,400 euros per person and the supplement for disability and large families determine who can access aid that, in practice, can cover a large part of the cost of books and materials for the course.
