Merit-based selection process to fill 58 Firefighter Corporal positions in Badajoz

The Provincial Consortium for Fire Prevention and Extinction (CPEI) of Badajoz has announced a merit-based competition to fill 58 vacant positions of Corporal Firefighter (Cabo Bombero/a). The announcement, approved by decree of the vice-president of the consortium on behalf of the president, is published in full in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Badajoz number 155, of 14 August 2026 (Notice 3209/2026).
The decree is issued under Article 79 of Royal Legislative Decree 5/2015, approving the Consolidated Text of the Basic Statute of Public Employees; Article 115 of Law 13/2015, of 8 April, on the Public Function of Extremadura; and Articles 97, 101 and 102 of Law 7/1985, Regulating the Bases of Local Government. The rules are based on the consortium’s staffing structure and its statutes, published in the BOP on 23 March 2021, and the file will be processed through the Area of Public Employees, Safety and Health at Work of the Provincial Council of Badajoz. The notice bears the signature of the secretary of the consortium, Margarita Suárez Villalba.
An internal promotion competition with 58 posts
Career civil servants of the CPEI in subgroup C1, special administration scale, special services subscale, fire extinguishing class, category Firefighter Driver, who are not under firm suspension from duties and who have been in their last definitive post for at least two years, may participate, with the exceptions provided for leave, special services and service in other administrations. Each applicant may apply for one or more posts, indicating an individualised and binding order of preference.
The 58 posts, with job grade supplement 19 and specific supplement of €22,786.82 per year in 14 payments, are distributed among 15 fire stations in the province:
- Alburquerque (4), Almendralejo (2), Azuaga (5) and Castuera (2).
- Don Benito–Villanueva (5), Fregenal de la Sierra (5), Herrera del Duque (3) and Hornachos (5).
- Jerez de los Caballeros (4), Llerena (5), Mérida (5) and Olivenza (2).
- Puebla de la Calzada (4), Villafranca de los Barros (3) and Zafra (4).
The Corporal Firefighter acts as shift leader of the station, is responsible for the premises, staff, vehicles and equipment in the absence of the Coordinating Sergeant or the Station Chief, and attends all incidents as intervention leader, with the obligation to draft and sign the attendance, internal regime and intervention reports.
Applications: online and a period of fifteen days
Applications must be submitted exclusively by electronic means through the CPEI electronic office (sede.dip-badajoz.es), within a period of fifteen business days counted from the day following the publication of the extract of the call in the Official State Gazette. The application must include the identification of the positions requested in order of preference, a reference to the personal file of the interested party, and the responsible declaration of meeting the requirements, and must be accompanied by Annex II with the list of courses and training activities. The provisional list of accepted and excluded applicants will be published on the employment notice board of the website of the Provincial Council of Badajoz, with five business days to remedy defects or submit allegations.
Scoring, assessment and award
Merits, as of the closing date of the application period, are scored up to a maximum of 7.50 points, with at least 3 points required to be awarded a position:
- Consolidated personal grade: up to 0.75 points.
- Work performed: up to 2.50 points, with 0.10 points per year as a firefighter, 0.15 as a corporal and 0.20 as a station chief.
- Training activities: up to 1.50 points.
- Academic education: up to 0.75 points.
- Services rendered in public administrations: up to 2.00 points, at a rate of 0.08 per full year.
The assessment corresponds to a Technical Assessment Committee chaired by the head of the Public Employees Area, with five members —three appointed by drawing of lots and two proposed by the CPEI— and a secretary, all of them career civil servants, and trade union organizations may participate as observers. Positions will be awarded in descending order of score; each person may obtain only one, and ties will be resolved by public draw. The procedure must be resolved and published within a maximum of six months from the end of the application period, and taking up of the post is set at three business days when it does not involve a change of residence and ten days when it does.
With 58 positions spread throughout the province, the selection process reinforces the coverage of middle management at the CPEI’s fire stations and opens for firefighter drivers a route of internal promotion that is regulated, transparent and based exclusively on the assessment of merits, within the framework of the Basic Statute of Public Employees and the Public Service Law of Extremadura.
