Commission clears 75 million euro state aid for Oldenburg stadium rebuild

The European Commission has authorised state aid SA.122175 for the construction of a new stadium in Oldenburg, Germany, concluding that the measure raises no objections under Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. The decision was adopted on 12 August 2026 and published in the Official Journal of the European Union, C series, on 22 September 2026 under reference C/2026/4933. The aid goes to Stadion Oldenburg GmbH & Co. KG for the project titled “Stadionneubau in Oldenburg [NI]”.

A municipal project on Maastrichter Straße

The project traces back to a decision of the Rat der Stadt Oldenburg of 15 April 2024, taken on the basis of a council proposal and a joint amendment to proposal 24/0158, “Stadionneubau Maastrichter Straße”, tabled for the meetings of the Verwaltungsausschuss and the Council that same day. The new stadium is to be built on Maastrichter Straße, in the city of Oldenburg, in the federal state of Lower Saxony.
