Castilla y León extends the medium fire danger period until November 9
Por FactBox Admin

The Regional Government of Castilla y León will maintain the medium forest fire danger period from November 1 to 9, 2026, throughout the autonomous territory. This was decided by the General Directorate for the Prevention and Extinction of Forest Fires through the Resolution of October 27, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Castilla y León (BOCYL) number 211, Friday, October 30, 2026, in section I (Community of Castilla y León, Other Provisions) of the Department of Environment and Energy.
An extension motivated by the anticyclone and lack of rain
The measure extends the declaration adopted barely three weeks prior. The Resolution of October 7, 2026, from the same management center and published in BOCYL number 197, October 9, 2026, had set the medium danger period between October 13 and 31, a period that is now extended by nine more days.
The text justifies the extension on the grounds that weather forecasts for the first week of November indicate a high probability that the anticyclonic block will persist, with marked atmospheric stability. This situation favors the absence of precipitation and the persistence of low relative humidity values, which increases the danger of fires and could intensify as the anticyclonic episode prolongs.
The background supporting the decision
The October declaration was based on several factors that the extension resolution considers still in effect:
- Temperatures higher than expected for the time of year.
- Very low probability of precipitation.
- Forecast of moderate winds and gusts of up to 45 kilometers per hour in the central strip of the Community.
- Persistence of drought symptoms in vegetation in many areas of the territory.
To this is added the national context: the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOD) for Forest Fires agreed to extend the end of the summer campaign until October 31, after analyzing a season of “extraordinary complexity,” as recorded in the resolution of October 7.
Five regulations supporting the extension
The resolution is issued under the competencies derived from:
- Decree 89/2004, of July 29, which establishes the Forest Fire Fighting Operation of Castilla y León and regulates the guard system.
- Decree 6/2025, of March 27, which approves the Special Civil Protection Plan for Forest Fire Emergencies in Castilla y León (INFOCAL Plan).
- Order FYM/510/2013, of June 25, which regulates the use of fire and establishes preventive measures for fighting forest fires in Castilla y León.
- Decree 14/2026, of June 29, which establishes the organic structure of the Department of Environment and Energy.
The document is signed in Valladolid on October 27, 2026, by the general director of Forest Fire Prevention and Extinction, Ángel Manuel Sánchez Martín, and bears the official reference BOCYL-D-30102026-211-24.
Practical effects for citizens and operations
The declaration of a medium danger period activates the prevention regime and the limitations on the use of fire provided for in Order FYM/510/2013, which apply throughout the Community during the entire extended period. In parallel, the declaration results in the adaptation of the regional extinction device and its guard system, scaled according to the risk existing at any given moment, in accordance with Decree 89/2004 and the INFOCAL Plan.
The decision comes with the campaign theoretically closed and in the midst of the agricultural and forestry work season, when the burning of plant remains and the use of machinery that generates sparks are common in rural areas.
Maintaining the medium danger level until November 9 obliges city councils, farmers, and forest owners to take extreme precautions in a Community that has experienced an October without significant precipitation and with vegetation still affected by the drought. Any activity with a risk of ignition must comply with the conditions of the current regional regulations during those nine days.
