Castilla-La Mancha sets twelve Sundays and holidays for commercial opening in 2027
Por FactBox Admin

The Ministry of Economy, Business and Employment of Castilla-La Mancha has set twelve days on which commercial establishments in the region may open to the public during 2027. This is done through Order 151/2026, of October 19, published in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha (no. 208, of October 29, 2026, section I.- General Provisions, page 37967, reference 2026/7732), and signed by the regional minister Patricia Franco Jiménez.
Twelve days, with January and December as protagonists
The authorized calendar combines Sundays and two holidays on Thursday and Monday, concentrating a large part of the openings at the start and end of the year:
- Sunday, January 3.
- Sunday, January 10.
- Thursday, March 25.
- Sunday, May 2.
- Monday, May 31.
- Sunday, June 27.
- Sunday, October 31.
- Sunday, November 28.
- Sunday, December 5.
- Sunday, December 12.
- Sunday, December 19.
- Sunday, December 26.
The regulatory text does not establish specific opening hours nor does it modify the regime of exceptions, but rather limits itself to determining the dates enabled for commercial activity. The regulation will take effect the day following its publication in the gazette, that is, from October 30, 2026.
The twelve-day limit and the mandate of the Trade Law
The order develops Article 18 of Law 2/2010, of May 13, on Trade of Castilla-La Mancha, whose section 1 sets at twelve per year the Sundays and holidays on which commercial establishments may remain open to the public. Section 3 of that same article attributes to the ministry competent in trade matters the annual determination of those dates.
According to that same provision, the publication had to occur before December 15 of the year prior to application; in this case, it has been brought forward by almost two months relative to the legal deadline, appearing in the gazette of October 29. The regional competence stems from Article 31.1.11ª of the Statute of Autonomy, which grants Castilla-La Mancha exclusive competence in domestic trade, without prejudice to general price policy, the free movement of goods, and competition defense legislation.
The processing is further supported by Decree 64/2025, of September 9, which establishes the organic structure and sets the competencies of the bodies of the Ministry of Economy, Business and Employment, and by the powers conferred by Law 11/2003, of September 25, of the Government and Consultative Council of Castilla-La Mancha.
Prior consultation with consumers, chambers, and entrepreneurs
Before approving the calendar, the ministry has complied with the hearing procedure provided for in Law 2/2010 before the representative entities of the sector and the users:
- The Consumers and Users Council of Castilla-La Mancha.
- The Council of Official Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services of Castilla-La Mancha.
- The Regional Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Castilla-La Mancha.
- Other most representative business and trade union organizations in the region.
The order states that the consultation process has been carried out and that, based on it, the opening days for the next fiscal year are being determined.
A calendar with five consecutive Sundays in December
The distribution chosen for 2027 leaves three Sundays of opening in January and February without any authorized days, while December accumulates five consecutive Sundays: the 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th, in addition to November 28th. The coincidence with the Christmas campaign makes this stretch the period of greatest potential activity for small and medium-sized businesses.
The calendar directly affects merchants, sector workers—whose breaks and shifts will be conditioned on those twelve dates—and consumers, who must plan their holiday shopping according to this list. Since it is published in advance, companies have more than two months to organize staff, personnel reinforcements, and procurement before January 3rd, the first authorized day.
