Casavieja approves fee of up to 150 euros for civil marriages
Por FactBox Admin

The Casavieja City Council has definitively approved the modification of the Fiscal Ordinance Regulating the Tax for Civil Marriage Celebrations, which establishes a payment of between 100 and 150 euros for each marriage celebrated in the municipality. The decision, adopted by the municipal Plenary, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Ávila on September 14, 2026.
As no claims were filed during the public exhibition period, the provisional plenary agreement dated July 1, 2026, has been automatically elevated to definitive status, in compliance with Article 17.4 of the Recast Text of the Law Regulating Local Treasuries, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 2/2004, of March 5.
Legal Basis and Taxable Event
The ordinance is drafted using the powers attributed by Law 7/1985, of April 2, regulating the Bases of Local Regime, and by current local treasury regulations. The taxable event consists of the initiation of the wedding file at the request of the contracting parties to be processed by the Civil Registry, or the referral of a file processed by another civil registry for its conclusion, in both cases through the celebration at the Civil Registry of Casavieja.
The celebration shall be performed by the head of the Civil Registry, unless it is requested that the Mayor’s Office or a councilor by delegation thereof perform it. A private and parallel celebration, in a place and time different from the official ones, shall in no case be mandatory for the official celebrant.
Amount of the Tax and Form of Payment
The amount must be paid in two installments: half at the time of the application, either in cash at the office or via bank transfer, and the remaining 50% before the day prior to the celebration, a requirement without which the wedding will not be held. The file will not be initiated until the first amount is paid. The rates are fixed as follows:
- €100 per file and celebration at the town hall from Monday to Friday during the established hours, plus €50 as a per diem for the official celebrant.
- €150 per file and celebration at the town hall outside the established days and hours, plus €50 per diem for the official celebrant.
- €100 per file when the celebration takes place in a municipality other than that of the processing body.
- An additional €50 as a per diem for the official celebrant in the case of a private celebration in a different place and time.
- €5 for each certificate of attendance at the wedding, which shall be paid at the time of collection and upon presentation of an identity card.
Expenses for decoration and other costs inherent to the celebration shall be borne by the contracting parties.
Accrual and Entry into Force
The accrual of the fee occurs at the very moment of the application that initiates the proceedings. The ordinance also provides that public administrations may optionally establish other means of payment.
With this final approval, Casavieja establishes a clear and homogeneous tariff framework for all contracting parties in the municipality, both for weddings held during ordinary hours and those carried out outside of them or under a private regime. The measure affects all residents who wish to enter into a civil marriage in the town, who must plan for the payment of the fee in two installments prior to the date of the wedding.
