Lanzarote Cabildo announces grants to restore cultural heritage

The Insular Government Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, at its ordinary session held on August 3, 2026, approved the call for subsidies under competitive bidding procedures aimed at financing interventions on privately owned properties that are part of the Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands on the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. The announcement was published on Monday, August 17, 2026, in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Las Palmas, number 98, under registration number 1720675 and with identifier in the National Subsidies Database (924905).

The call is framed within file 10715/2026 and is governed by the regulatory bases definitively approved in file 3056/2023, under the protection of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Subsidies Law, Law 11/2019, of April 25, on Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands, and the General Subsidies Ordinance of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

How the funds are distributed

The initial budget credit allocated to this call amounts to 200,000 euros, charged to budget item 336.78000. The budget is single-purpose and is not multi-annual, meaning it does not commit expenditure for future fiscal years. However, in accordance with Article 58 of the Regulations of the General Subsidies Law, the amount may be increased without the need for a new call if budget availability exists before the grant award resolution.

The distribution of the credit is single for all the lines called. Applications that meet the requirements are ordered by total score regardless of the line, until the credit is exhausted. This formula, according to the Cabildo, avoids “idle credit pools” and ensures the selection of the highest-rated actions.

Maximum amount per beneficiary

The subsidy may not exceed 50% of the amount of the subsidizable intervention, with a cap of 50,000 euros per beneficiary and property. Only one subsidy is granted per beneficiary and per property. The amount may never exceed the amount requested nor exceed the actual cost of the action, and the determination of the amount will be made in accordance with basis nine of the regulatory bases, applying weighting based on the applicant’s annual income when applicable.

Seven lines of action

The call establishes seven differentiated lines to cover different types of intervention:

• Drafting intervention projects for properties that meet heritage protection conditions.
• Execution of cultural heritage maintenance interventions.
• Consolidation, restoration, conservation, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of cultural heritage.
• Conservation, consolidation, and restoration of facades.
• Conservation, consolidation, and restoration of roofs.
• Conservation, consolidation, and restoration of cisterns, ponds, reservoirs, and other elements of the island’s hydraulic heritage.
• Conservation, consolidation, restoration, and rehabilitation of facades and roofs of properties included in Historic Complexes and their protection environments.

Subsidizable actions include maintenance, conservation, restoration, consolidation, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of real estate properties included in island or municipal catalogues, declared Assets of Cultural Interest or with proceedings initiated for their declaration, as well as those that, without being included in a formal protection instrument, possess heritage values accredited by a technical report from the Historical Heritage Service of the Island Council of Lanzarote.

Who can apply and deadlines

Natural persons and/or private legal entities who are owners or holders of real rights over the real estate properties may be beneficiaries, as well as communities of owners, joint ownership arrangements, and groups without legal personality that designate a representative. Public Administrations, Foundations, and civil or religious entities are excluded.

The main requirements include not incurring prohibitions under Article 13 of the General Subsidies Law, being up to date with tax and Social Security obligations, and having a domicile or registered office in Lanzarote or La Graciosa. Applications must be submitted electronically through the Island Council’s Electronic Registry, within a period of one month counted from the day following the publication of the call for applications extract in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Las Palmas.

The maximum period for resolving and notifying the decision will be six months from the publication of the call for applications, and the subsidized actions must be carried out within a maximum of 18 months from the final award decision. Subcontracting up to 100% of the execution is permitted under the conditions of Article 29 of the General Subsidies Law.

The call for applications was signed by the Managing Councillor of the Island Council of Lanzarote, Miguel Ángel Jiménez Cabrera, exercising the powers delegated by the President of the Corporation through Decree number 4715, of 21 July 2023.
