Benidorm subsidizes up to 250 euros for youth driver's licenses

The Benidorm City Council will subsidize up to 250 euros of the cost of obtaining a driver’s license for the municipality’s youth. The call for applications was approved by the Local Government Board in an extraordinary session on September 17, 2026, and its summary is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante (BOP) No. 179 of September 21, 2026, with official reference 7126 / 2026 and identifier BDNS 930169.

The measure is based on Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies, whose articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a require the publication of the summary of the call, the full text of which can be consulted in the National Subsidies Database. The announcement bears the signature of the mayor, Antonio Pérez Pérez, and the general secretary, Vicent Ferrer Mas.

Purpose and amounts of the aid

The call seeks to cover part of the theoretical training for any type of driver’s license, with the following maximum amounts:

• 250 euros per beneficiary person in general.
• 125 euros for those obtaining the AM category license.

Depending on the type of license obtained, the available credit will allow for at least 280 young people from Benidorm to be served.

Requirements to access the subsidy

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

• Be between 15 and 30 years old, inclusive, at the time of obtaining the license.
• Be registered as a resident (empadronado) in Benidorm prior to January 1, 2026, and maintain this registration throughout the process.
• Have obtained any class of driver’s license, or the temporary authorization to drive, between January 1 and October 31, 2026, inclusive.
• Have a bank account.
• Submit a responsible declaration stating they are up to date with tax obligations, with Social Security, and with the Benidorm City Council.
• In the case of minors under 18, the application must be in the minor’s name and have the authorization of their legal representative, proven by a family book or equivalent document.

Deadline, documentation, and method of submission

Applications shall be submitted exclusively through the Electronic Office of the Benidorm City Council, in a specific procedure enabled within the Youth Services Catalog. The period will be from November 1 to 17, 2026, inclusive, and requests submitted outside of this period will not be admitted for processing.

The required documentation is as follows:

• DNI, NIE or passport of the applicant and, if applicable, their legal representative.
• Census certificate (volante or certificado de empadronamiento) showing the registration date in the municipal census.
• Copy of the driver’s license or an authentic copy of the temporary authorization issued by the Provincial Traffic Headquarters, including the date of issuance or acquisition.
• Invoice issued in the name of the beneficiary along with proof of payment.
• Copy of the family book (libro de familia) or document proving legal representation when the beneficiary is a minor.

Payment Procedure

Those who are designated as beneficiaries according to the final resolution must be registered in the Third Party Registration of the Benidorm City Council to receive the aid. They will have a maximum period of ten business days, counting from the day following the publication of the final resolution, to complete the registration process or update their details.

The call for applications arrives in a municipality where private vehicles and mopeds are common for the work and leisure mobility of young people, and where the cost of driving school represents a barrier to entry. With a guaranteed minimum of 280 beneficiaries, the measure aims to facilitate the first driving qualification for a segment of the population under 31 years of age, who must prove their residency in the census prior to January 1, 2026.
