Benicàssim announces the opening for the position of Titular Justice of the Peace with a twenty-day deadline

The Benicàssim City Council has opened a public call to fill the position of Chief Justice of the Peace of the municipality, according to Decree number 2026-3285, issued by the Mayor’s Office-Presidency on August 12, 2026. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Castellón, number 102, dated August 25, 2026, with the official reference 03708-2026.
Interested parties will have a period of twenty (20) business days, counting from the day following the publication of the announcement in the gazette, to submit their application at the General Registry of the City Council or through any of the means provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.
Capacity Requirements
To be elected as Chief Justice of the Peace, it is required to meet the capacity conditions established by current legislation, without requiring a degree or graduate qualification in Law:
- Hold Spanish nationality and be of legal age.
- Not be physically or mentally impaired for judicial functions.
- Not have been convicted of an intentional crime unless rehabilitation has been obtained.
- Not be under prosecution or indicted for an intentional crime until acquittal is obtained or a dismissal order is issued.
- Be in full enjoyment of civil rights, in accordance with article 303 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary.
Incompatibilities of the Position
The position of Justice of the Peace is incompatible with the exercise of any other jurisdiction or employment within the Administration of Justice, as well as with the performance of elective public offices or political appointments. It also cannot be combined with membership or the exercise of management functions in political parties or trade unions, with paid employment in public administrations (except for teaching or specified exceptions), nor with the practice of law or court representation, among other causes provided for in articles 389 and following of the LOPJ and in article 14 of Regulation 3/1995 of the General Council of the Judiciary.
Election and Submission of Applications
Once the application period has ended and the documentation provided by the candidates has been examined, the election proposal will be submitted to the Plenary of the Corporation, which will require the favorable vote of an absolute majority of the legal number of members, in accordance with article 101.2 of the LOPJ. In the event that no applications are submitted, the Plenary shall elect freely with the same quorum.
The standardized application form and supplementary information can be obtained at the Electronic Office of the Benicàssim City Council (https://benicassim.sedelectronica.es) or in person at the Citizen Information Service (SIC). The announcement, signed by the mayor-president Susana Marqués Escoín, is made public for general knowledge in accordance with Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, of the Justices of the Peace.
The call represents an opportunity for legal professionals and residents of Benicàssim interested in a local proximity judicial position, which does not require a law degree and is resolved by the municipal Plenary.
